Hi, I'm applying for a visitor's visa to Canada, and am seeking for guidance on the definition of 'current place of residence'.
  • I'm a Malaysian citizen;
  • I have been a permanent resident of Australia for almost 10 years;
  • I have recently (<6mths ago) moved to US as a full time student and will be there for four years. I still have bank accounts in Australia;
  • Being a full time student, I don't have a job and therefore no substantial income in Australia, US or Malaysia.
Question is, what is my 'current place of residence' for purposes of applying for visitors' visa in Canada? US, Australia, or Malaysia?

Thanks in advance!

You do not live nor reside neither in Malaysia nor in Australia.

Therefore USA.

The next question is, re. form IMM5257B there's a question on my "Previous Travel" in the past 5 years, and that I should only list destinations other than my country of citizenship or current place of residence.

The tricky part is I've been travelling extensively between all three countries - US, Malaysia and Australia - and Australia has been my 'place of residence' up until Feb 2017, after which it's US.

So is it ok for me to omit my flights to Australia in "Previous Travel" up to Feb 2017? And after that consider any flights out of US - which includes Australia - post Feb 2017?
e.g. Pre-2017: List flights to US & Malaysia, omit flights to Australia.
Post Feb 2017: List flights to Australia, omit flights to US.

All international flights should be listed.

Travel IN country of residence/citizenship should not.
