What happens to your work permit once you have landed? Does the work permit get cancelled? Can you continue working till you get your PR card? Can you travel without the PR card if you are from a visa-exempt country? Or should you wait for the PR card to arrive?

I am assuming you would need your PR card on your return to Canada if you are travelling on a passport that requires a visa to enter Canada.
As soon as you get your COPR you can head into the nearest Service Canada office and get your permanent SI number. You'll have to give the new number to your employer, and your current work permit is not needed. They are technically supposed to take your status documents when you land, but they didn't even ask for my husband's. Yes you can keep working.

Yes you can travel without the PR card if you are visa-exempt, bring the COPR though as it will probably help at the border.

Hi everyone! Has anyone tried to write a letter and include it to the application asking to transfer file to Ottawa instead of VO of your home country by mentioning that you've living in Canada for a while (let's say more than 2-3 years)? If yes, was it successful or the application was still transferred to the VO of your home country?

Thanks! We will be travelling soon so when we return, we will finalize our landing process, either at the border or at a CIC office (after getting an appointment). CIC told me that once I have 'landed', I need to wait for the PR card before travelling as once I have landed, I would be considered a PR.

You're not able to request a VO office yourself. Generally if you're a resident of Canada already, it will be processed in Ottawa or Mississauga anyway.

I'm starting to plan for landing for once I receive the COPR in the mail (I'm hoping to drive down and flagpole more or less immediately)...

Looking at the CBSA site, though, it seems that there are no border crossings in BC with IMM services? I was quite confident I could just drive down to Point Roberts or Peace Arch to flagpole, but neither one is indicated on this site:

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/do-rb/services/imm-eng.html

Does anybody have a recent experience landing in BC?

The website is just messing up. Peace Arch would have one for sure, not sure about Point Roberts though. My spouse landed in July in Osoyoos.

Thanks, that's what I had thought (no IMM at Point Roberts, but yes at Peace Arch/Pac Highway).

Strange that the site wouldn't be reflecting this! Even off the map, though, on the Douglas crossing page, IMM services are not listed.

Yea it's some kind of site bug, it showed them all the last time I looked a few weeks ago. I'll send them an email.

Landed at Pac Crossing last weekend, just drove down and flagpoled. Entire process took about 30 minutes. Congrats!

We are in the same boat as you, waiting it out in Dublin. Hoping to be back by March.

Was your original VO London?
Hey Mgrandolini

Yea my original VO was meant to be London but they decided to send it to Ottawa instead.

So are we expecting to be waiting longer do you think? Because our original VO was London?

I hope not but I guess you never know with CIC. I have seen quite a few people with similar time lines to us get approved but none from Ireland, not sure if that means anything. Fingers crossed its before Christmas

I received this email back from them:

Please note that the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is currently in the process of removing the immigration (IMM) service code from ports of entry (POE) listed on our website.

Border Services Officers (BSO) are considered cross-trained in immigration related matters, therefore a foreign national seeking entry into Canada may do so at any POE. As a result there is no longer a need to have the IMM service code designations on the website.

Thank you for contacting the Canada Border Services Agency.

Interesting, so now you can go to any podunk border and land? I'm sceptical.
