I admit that i'm a little embarrassed to ask this question because it may be common knowledge, but do the long processing times at CPC - Ottawa and other VO's have anything to do with receiving more applications than there are seats available in a given year? Or do files sit in inventory for long periods of time simply because of the obvious: too many applications and not enough resources?

In a perfect world where there is no backlog or waiting time, I wonder how long it would take a visa officer to approve a PR application?

Looking forward to hearing your responses!

That sounds like a good way to go. I was thinking the same re: Australia being visa-exempt.
I received a reply from Ottawa and yes, passports are meant to be copies, phew - glad I did that. I sent my copies, photos in on the 3rd Sept, the COPR letters were dated 4th September and they were posted out on the 8th September, which I received on the 10th September.

I thought that was a pretty good turn around time considering I thought 3 weeks was the 'norm'.

Also in my conversation with the call centre I was advised that they issue COPR letters/VISAs in 'Batches', that is... they wait until they have a certain number of COPRs to do. I have no idea what that number is but I would anticipate those who put their apps in back in Dec 2014.... the 8 month mark is about right as per the spreadsheet.

My last leg is to 'land', altho technically I am already here :-D ... I couldn't be happier. I am glad there was an option 1 in the COPR letter, option 2 was at a border crossing. We will be taking them up on option 1 for our landing...

Not sure if any of the above info helps anyone...

They would only ask for the physical passport if the passport is non-visa exempt. So it seems like that she is not a US citizen

IS it me, or has any applicant from the Ottawa VO gotten a DM in the past few weeks, or is it more likely a batch of approvals are coming up based on the doc requests that a ton of early 2015 applicants are getting..... This wait is getting unbearable.

I hope so too. We are one of the many with IP on Aug 6th and we have been hoping each day to see a change. The wait since Nov 2014 has been very hard. Our lawyer thought we would get a DM by August, and we knew even surviving financially until then would be tight, so now we just wait and hope and pinch the pennies as much as we can until he can work.

I really hope soon they implement a better system, the strain this process puts on families is horrible :(

Just effing ridiculous the wait times 8-10 months for an app with no red flags, sit in a pile for 4-5 sometimes 6 months before an officer touches it, my cousin who is a US citizen sponsored her husband from the Philippines to america, he got approved in less than 6 months. How is it the Brazil VO (5 months, some applicants have been approved in 3) even the manila office is faster than Ottawa and those applicants need visas to enter Canada has processing times quicker than U.S applicants yes I know Ottawa processes other streams, then have Americans be processed in Mississauga which would cut the processing time in half.... Rant for the day...

I feel all these generic document requests gives the VO a reason to delay the processing of the application and increase wait times as they look to approve more express entry applicants. F this process, somethings got to change, streamline something. How about you make the entire application digital that way there is no way your poorly trained staff can lose or misplace documents.

I completely agree with all of this! My friends and family are always shocked to hear that I've been waiting for 8 months already. :p It's ridiculous, even to people who aren't the least bit familiar with the immigration system.

The only i can think of is due to the large amounts of immigration fraud that occurs in Canada usually from the middle east(sorry for the generalization but facts are facts). But if there are too many streams for officers to evaluate in Ottawa why the f can cic not move these applications to the Mississauga office... please explain how Brazil/Manila VO are processing family class streams quicker than Canadian VO offices. One does not move from the U.S and Canada for a drastically better life, its more or less similar although I do love Canada better than the U.S due in part the ignorance in the states is just too much. You would think sponsoring your spouse in the United States would be more drawn out and longer than the Canadian process. BTW wtf is the point of us sending in an FBI Clearance if they are going to conduct their own inquiry with the FBI. I have seen very few DM's from this office in the last month....... 8 months lol for a clear cut application from a non-visa exempt country lol.... ranting done for the day.

The "batch" theory is definitely my thinking.

Doesn't make sense for everyone to suddenly all be getting the same document request emails on pretty much the same days

My betting is we get a load of Ottawa DM's before the end of the month... and maybe even sooner :D

Yup, my husband is American, were married, sent lots of proof, gave all docs/meds done, no criminal or red flags or anything, and we are sitting on IP in month 10. I cannot fathom what could be the cause of this long time period for such a simple application. It's so frustrating, and I see so many others on here so frustrated too.

Heck, ill go down to Ottawa and volunteer my time just to push some of these through faster if thats what it takes! ;)

Someone on here said Brazil gets only about 300 spousals per year, that is very low, plus the fact that VO only serves Brazil and not a bunch of other countries like most VO's. Seems like a waste of manpower, they should reorganise to balance out the VO's with long waits. CIC is so inconsistent I don't get it.
