Good to know! Thank you. I haven't gotten a request for my passport yet, or anything about an interview.

Do they request everyone's passport?? I thought most Americans got that waived? How did you physically send it and have you gotten it back yet? What if they ask me to send it and I need to enter Canada before it is returned??

Most American's do get waived. If they do request the passport they will only request a photocopy of it that you can scan in.

With me they only requested a photo copy of my Passport, which I emailed to them. So it was pretty straight forward.

From what I understand, if they do request for your physical passport, they will return it to you with your COPR, since you would need it to enter Canada.

Oh ok, we'll I sent a copy of my passport in with my application. Should I not have? I'm sure that didn't hurt anything, but did I jump the gun?

I sent them a copy of my passport with my original application as well and they still asked for it. You didn't jump the gun. I think it's more of some verification process for them. Who knows! lol

The hubby sent a copy of his with his application, too. Wasn't it on the checklist?
I wonder why some people are asked to send in another copy and others aren't. Maybe making sure the last name hasn't been changed since the original application? Who knows.

That makes sense. I was wondering the same.

it could also confirm that you are using the same passport, it hasn't been lost/changed in any way, or that it hasn't expired. there's a lot that can happen between the beginning and end, and i assume they need to verify the passport you will be using to gain entry as a PR.

It's still curious that while most, not everyone on here has been asked for it. Saintsim1, I look forward to hearing about the mysteries you solve :P

It seems like that would be why. It certainly makes sense. But I thought they were automatically updated about passport chabges? They were with mine at least. I legally changed to my married name after applying and I never sent them a new copy but they said it was already updated. I have no idea how, but it was updated before I even got my new one in the mail.

When they contacted me they asked me to submit a scan of the bio-data page of my passport and gave me an option to email, fax, or snail mail it to them. I scanned the page on my printer and emailed it to them the same day. So if you are from the US you don't need to physically send them the passport. They only want a scan of the bio-data page (the photo page).

No, I sent a copy of the passport with my application too. They will still ask you to send it again.

I sent one when I did, it and we did my husband's as well ( for his required ID, he's my sponsor). Maybe I misread it but it sounded like it was required at the beginning or maybe just a choice for identity proof. I don't remember.
