That's amazing! Thanks for clarifying.

My husband is on H1 work permit and will have to get his H1 stamped once he enters Canada as a PR. Waiting for our PR so we can see each other again.

What you are saying makes no sense at all. Why would your husband need to get his H1 stamped once he enters Canada? Are you talking about a H1 work visa from the US? If so, US H1 visas have no relation to Canadian PR.

My wife's done exactly that :) In fact, we've extended it several times...she's legally stayed with me in Canada for a couple of years now, and we applied outland back in March. We've normally just applied for the extension about a month before it expires, and we have gotten a new visitor record in the mail about a month or so later.

Thanks a lot. :) A few quick questions.

1. When applying, do I include my UCI# for PR?

2. Am I required to show proof of when I plan on leaving? Like a plane ticket or bus ticket.

1. Yes. I think there's somewhere in the online app that you specify it (they changed the process about a year ago to make it a little more confusing, but I recall putting that in somewhere on the form. Do you have a Visitor Record already? There's also a place where you specify the number for that, but if you don't have one, I think you just put N/A or something like that. The official CIC says for sure.

2. I don't think so. I just remember having to explain the reason for the extension request, but I haven't ever had to specifically prove to them my wife was going to return when it was done.

One of the main things I get concerned about, is that Canada might think I'm spending the majority of my time here and not at home and that it might work against my application because I'm outland.

Outland has to do with where the application is being processed - it means "at a visa office outside Canada" and in your case that means Ottawa, ON.

Outland does not mean you are outside Canada. I legally lived and worked in Canada during my entire "outland" application (when we started the outland office was Buffalo and by the time we were done it was Ottawa).

The confusion seems to arise because in order to be eligible for an inland application, one must be living in Canada with the sponsor. Outland has no such restriction on the location of the applicant.

Sorry for not articulating my thoughts correctly. You are right that US H1 Visa has no relation to the Canadian PR.

Quick question. We sent in all our paper work without the FBI results due to the government shutdown ( was worried it would take too long) and wrote a note saying I would send them when I got them. My question is.... Is it better to wait until they request them or just send them with our info and ID when we get them?

Thanks!

My personal feeling is that since you don't have an application ID# yet it's probably best to wait until you have at least that, or else that FBI check could end up in a black hole somewhere without the right person to check which package it goes with.

We decided not to wait simply because we wanted to get in the queue as early as possible. We submitted a note saying that the clearances would follow shortly. I waited for the SA and then submitted the FBI clearances. Later I sent an email requesting confirmation and received same.

Wait until you have a file number back, then you can submit the FBI letter. Otherwise it will go missing and you will have to get another one.

I agree with what everyone else tells you, wait until you get a UCI# and you are sure your application has arrived in CPP-O. I submitted my marriage certificate and my non-accompanying minor's medical results after the fact. We got married in November and it was going to take 12 weeks to get our marriage paperwork back so I submitted without the forms and attached a note saying they would come in as soon as possible. I submitted my application in February and then sent the rest of the missing packet to CPP-O in April, after my daughter did her medicals. I would still be waiting if I waited until April to submit the whole packet. Good luck!!
