I think Parker24 is in Ontario .. the rules in BC are different, from what I understand. I am also in BC, so I looked into this when I got married. I wanted to change my name to Maiden-Married but hyphenating your last name in BC requires a legal name change. If you want to continue using your maiden name or if you want to assume your husband's name, neither of these options require a legal name change. But if you want a hyphenated last name, you do have to have a legal name change.

Yes I am in Ontario, from what I understand the rules are a little different. My SIN still has my maiden name on it, as does my passport (Which will change when I renew it in 2015). Seems weird that BC requires legal name change for hyphenated! Then again, I'm sure Ontario has weird laws too :P (actually I KNOW we do :P )

It's a tough decision for me, too. I found out this information from the Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch): http://www.cba.org/BC/public_media/family/161.aspx. It's a pain to go through a legal name change for a hyphenated surname, but I still may do it.

Hello everyone,

I have question for those who had their stay extended while waiting for their application.
1. The processing time on the website is 90 days now. are these business days?..
2. Does the response comes in mail or email ?..

Thanks

90 calendar days. Sometimes they work on Saturdays I find.
Mail, as they need to send you the paper visa :)

Did you have to change your name legally? Im in BC and I am looking into how I go about changing my last name.. I don't really understand... I have read that if I am only changing my maiden name to my married name then I don't need to change it legally just basically call each ID place and change it .. but I also read that if I want to keep both my maiden and married name I do need to change it legally.. I don't know lol im a little confused.. how was your experience?

Alberta apparently doesn't care and lets you use both. I have many friends with ID in madien and married, usually passport in madien and license in married, etc. One that has her bank accounts in married and license in madien. I bet that's fun when she goes to the teller.

Hello everyone. Does anyone know if they started working on December applications yet?

I think so, because mine was December only.

Oh, thanks. I guess I was looking at the date I sent my application for stage one but I guess I really should be looking at the date I got stage one approval and forwarded to Ottawa. In that case I was approved stage one on feb 4th. Did anyone hear anything about Ottawa sending PPR for late jan or feb approvals? Thank you.

Mine was just approved, too. I think they're just dipping their toe into December, especially if you look at the December spreadsheet. But they do occasionally skip around, you never know...

Ok thanks, hopefully we hear something this month. I just keep hoping for passport request soon. I'm being sponsored by my wife. I'm not sure if they'll send PPR to her email or mine. We keep checking both just in case.
