Reminds me of when my wife immigrated here from canada to Texas 2 years ago. The way the USCIS operates is your paperwork gets thrown in a box after its "received and processed" (ie: check cashed) and put on a shelf no matter what the order they are received. that box is picked up by an agent and they proceed to process the files out of it.

Whether that was the first box on said shelf or not doesnt really matter. they could grab a box with apps from 2012 or apps from 2009. If you get a request for more evidence (known as an RFE in US immigration lingo), your application gets put in an "On hold" pile until they receive your docs. Even then it may be some time before the agent goes to that stack.

I would guess the CIC operates in a similar manner across the board

I've been through the immigration process in the US too and it's exactly the same thing. They might lose and forgot your stuff but they won't lose the checks! haha

Actually I know a case for CIC, they requested the same fee and he/she sent the receipts

On a different note if you are shipping your goods using company (e.g u-haul) do I need to meet them at the border? My hubby is saying I have to. I don't want to go all the way to Alberta and then go back down south to receive my goods at the border. Isn't it silly? I guess if I need to drive, driving it is! UGH!!! Horror!

I believe you do. I know when I came here on a work permit and was looking into having my stuff shipped here on a truck, they told me I'd have to be present at the border for my stuff to cross.

Customs may open and inspect your things, so make sure you take any jewelry and other valuables with you in the plane. I'm not saying Customs will steal, but I am saying some people do steal and they may work for Customs.

Oh my god! Is that really true?! I don't even know where they will cross the border or when. We're hiring a company like pods.

Hi, thank y'all for the answers of previous questions I had. I have another question about mailing my passport (non-US citizen) to OTTAWA from US to get Immigration Visa.

On the PPR letter, there are two addresses, one is By Mail, which is P.O. Box 9780 Ottawa ON K1G4B9. The other one is by private courier, which is 365 Laurier Ave West, Ottawa ON K1A 1L1. My question is if I use USPS express mail mailing from Virginia, should I use the first address?

My other concern is that CIC will return my real passport through regular mail, not allowing me to include a pre-paid return evenlope, I am a little bit worrying about the safety of delivery. After all, it is my passport, with all of my both US and Canadian visas on it.

Hi, yes you use the PO box address for USPS. I mailed my passport too (I am a Chinese), and I am worried also. Actually I am very worried, please don't lose my passport! But there is no other method, because they do not accept pre-paid envelope...
