ChellyCat is right. As far as the applications that have gone through I've seen no rhyme or reason. Married vs. common-law shouldn't have different processing times unless more information is needed to prove the relationship genuine.

I would try to stick with, "I hope my application doesn't take nearly a year," as far as hopes go. I would have died with stress if I had been counting from the 5 month mark (19 months is very out of the ordinary).
I agree 19 months is absolutely ridiculous, and congratulations on finally being over with that hell of a process. My fiance and I have been long distance a total of 5 out of the 8 years we've been together, so I've been dying with stress the last time I left Canada during my mini vacation to visit him for 2 weeks. I can't really do anything about the stress at this point, although most people going through this are naturally stressed from the beginning.

Wow, kudos for you two managing to stay together for that long in a long-distance relationship! Yes, the process is very stressful. I did find though that thinking about doing the application was the worst part, once we had that package sent in I knew it was out of my hands on what would happen next for the most part so the stress went down a lot. Poor Ontariobat got a horrible letter and why he had to prove all that I have no idea, sure seems unfair comparing people's situations.

I would agree, Aquakitty. I spent so many hours/weeks/months/even years putting together the application. Once it was in it was out of my hands. Obviously stress went through the roof when I heard back from them regarding more information.

A congrats from me as well for so many years long distance! We were long distance for 10 months and couldn't handle it any longer.

Thank you both for the kudos. If we had the savings, I'd be up there with him in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, we need to both be working and putting money away right now. Also I have been wondering, you won't have a "medical received" update on ECAS if you did Meds and sent them upfront, correct?

Also, if I remember correctly, Medicals last for 6 months, does that mean I'll be asked for a new one here soon?

You should still see "medical received" regardless if you did them upfront or not. :)

And they last a year. They will most likely extend them. Mine expired this month but I got DM with no new medical request.

I see. Is it unusual to not see a medical received update 4 months in? I sent everything all together, so it's a little worrisome. Do I need to contact somebody?

I see you've already received SA? I wouldn't worry too much. It all depends on the officer handling your file. You'll probably see it update once they open your file again.

I was never asked to re-med in the 19 months luckily (not that it would have mattered health-wise but more with application delays).

All right, just checking. And yes I've received SA already. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something I needed to call and have looked at. Just ordered case notes actually as well.

I was just going to suggest ordering your case notes. Hopefully that'll shed some light for you! :)

Already done! Well, my fiance ordered them (ridiculous how much easier it is when the sponsor in Canada does it, not to mention cheaper). So hopefully in 30 days we'll have a bit more insight.

You added the consent form, correct?

I may have read wrong, in which case I imagine I'll be getting an email back, I read that it's only if it's some relative/friend ordering your notes or "ordering on your behalf". Would requesting notes on our application as a couple still be ordering on my behalf? I just did the online request through CIC.

Yes, your husband was ordering them on your behalf. Since he is ordering YOUR case notes. Hope that makes sense.
You can only order them for yourself if you're in Canada (or are a citizen, etc.).

You probably will get an email asking for the consent form. Sometimes people have gotten lucky and by passed that but they were in Canada at the time.

Aah, my mistake. Should I just wait for the consent form request, or re submit another request?
