Another question...
My husband will be bringing his car over, what does he need? What will they be looking for?
I believe he needs a recall clearance letter? Any idea how long those are valid for?

I don't recall the exact requirements, but I do know that after looking at the process, we decided it would be easier to sell our car in the US and then buy one in Canada.

My understanding is they are focusing on temporary visas and pushing PR to the back. Makes sense because tourism is best in summer and international students are applying for Fall. Temporary status (namely tourists and international students) = big bucks.

It's hard to know what CPP-O is focusing on, and whether the strike has significantly affected PR applications at just foreign offices, or at CPP-O as well. I understand that CPP-O does TRV within Canada and PR applications from within Canada and the US, and that CIC is generally shifting non-striking resources to visa processing away from PR applications, but it's not clear whether the PAFSO union represents many or even any of the CPP-O employees, and also whether the shifting of non-striking resources is occurring only at foreign visa offices, or also in Ottawa.

With respect to my own family's application, I haven't seen any difference in processing speed before and after the strike began. Ba-dum ching.

Ah... I see. Well, this will get you started for the Canadian side:
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5048-eng.html

And of course the US wants a piece of the cross-border action (and who can blame them? 8)).
I think this is the starting point for export of his vehicle from the US (note the border has to receive the required documents three days in advance of export)

Hello Everyone,

I'd like to be added to the spreadsheet:

Application Received: Jan 7, 2013
Sponsorship Approved: Feb 20, 2013
Medicals Done: Nov 20, 2013

I've heard absolutely nothing from Ottowa since >:( and my online status has not been updated.

You have to understand that there is a strike going on, and you're still in the early stages of you process.
We just received my husband's copy of passport request, and you can see by my timeline how long that took. Ecas still hasn't updated for us, and I don't expect it to in all honesty because it's pretty useless.
Try to be patient and realize this is a waiting game, and there are thousands of people in the same situation :)

If you happen to know when you got AOR or mailed your app, I can add that as well.

Would you like to be on the Jan 2013 Outland spreadsheet too?

To Ivan :P :P :P

Now you see why I'm selling my car before we move!

I sold my car too!! I am so relieved I did because after landing there are other things I needed to worry about. If you are up for a little more paperwork then go for it. I was done with paperwork, not to mention I had a good offer I couldn't pass.

His car is a show car, so selling it really isn't an option...

No January applicant on the spreadsheet has received a passport request yet, so that's not surprising. ECAS updates typically happen after you receive a communication from CPP-O, so no change is nothing to worry about. It's a long, unpleasant, stressful, annoying, unfair, capricious and unpredictable process. You can do everything right, and CIC will lose stuff, not notice documents you've included, and sit on basically completed applications for months. Canada definitely does not put its best face forward in this process. But there's really nothing you can do but wait...
