Hello,
Today after just randomly checking the dates on the COPR, i have found out something unusual
The issue date of our COPR is January 24 2014 and it expires on August 8th 2017 (that is only 3 years and 8 months)
and the PR card expires on 24 th June 2019. (5 years and 5 month)
So what are my obligations towards Canada, and what do these different dates mean. ( i hope its not a misprint)
Please advise.

Ignore the dates on your CORP.

Your residency obligation to Canada is that you must live in Canada for 2 out of every 5 rolling years from the time you landed in Canada.

Hi

I always thought that the COPR was concrete proof for permanent residency. It has been suggested many times in this forum that you don't need a PR card if you do not need to travel outside Canada and you can show the COPR instead as proof of status in Canada.

With the expiry date...the validity of the COPR also has a limited life?

Regards

Fred

You need a PR card if your passport is not visa-exempt and you are taking commercial transportation (airplane, train, bus, etc). It is most important if flying. An airline will not let someone who does not have a visa-exempt passport board a flight to Canada unless they have a valid PR card or travel visa. They will not accept COPR. If you are crossing the border in a private vehicle, you can use your COPR.

For people with a visa-exempt passport, they can come to Canada just using their passport and then CBSA can look up their status in the system when they arrive in Canada.

Yes the COPR itself has an expiry date. You must land before that date or you have to start all over again. I'm actually confused by the OP having a COPR that expires in 2017 because the expiry data is usually one year from the date of your medical.

From the time of the medical one has a year to land in Canada that date was 11/14/2014 and i landed on 11/13/2014
But there is another date which says expiration of COPR that was 8/22/2017, so even now no one have a definate answer as to
why there is a different date on the COPR(8/22/2017) and on the PR card (06/2019).
I have Indian passport but i live in US and can go to Canada by train, bus, car or walking the rainbow bridge.
There is another catch to that COPR, it says NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL.
Its all confusing to start with.

I'm looking at my wife's COPR. These are the dates I see:

-Her Date of Birth near the top
-Date of when she became P.R. under Personal Details. This date was hand written by the Landing Officer
-Expiry Date of her Passport under Personal Details.
-COPR Issue date under Application Details
-COPR "Valid to" date under Application Details
-Sponsor Date of Birth under Sponsor Information
-Dates handwritten for signatures at the bottom

I think you may be getting confused with the expiry date of your passport?

@ aashay12, to keesio's point, I checked my own COPR, and unless your COPR specifically states "COPR validity" date, I would agree with keesio's observation.

In my COPR, the passport number is listed and to the right of it there is a "Valid until" section which notes the expiration date of my passport.

So i landed yesterday under inland spousal, i just noticed that under personal details-PA, it mentioned my marital status to be single. Was this referring my details before i applied? I was never married before.
