You can qualify as common law by residing together for 12 months.

Have you applied for a visa to Canada? You will need to show you cannot reside together, so being rejected for a trv helps your case.

(If granted a trv, then reside together and apply later as common law)

TRV is a travel visa. Canada is open for visitor now. You can visit your "wife" or girlfriend.
You do not need someonet to sponsor a visitor visa.
