Hello...

I got an Interview required update in the tracker yesterday for July 21 for Canadian Citizenship. I am currently in US and in the process of extending my H4 and H4 EAD along with my wife's H1 premium bundle.

Is there a way that I can request for preponing the interview. I got this interview after completing test on 21st Feb. It's been a long wait so do not want to miss. But if I apply for my visa renewal in the US, I cannot travel outside the country until that is approved, correct? I do not understand what I should do.

Any suggestions please. Really appreciate any thoughful advises. Thank you in advance.

My timeline:
Applied on 17th September 2025.
Aor: 08th December 2025
Test: completed 21st February 2026
LPP: in progress.
Interview: Sheduled for 21st July 2026

You can try but being able to postpone the interview isn’t guaranteed because in essence you are asking Canada to allow you to prioritize your US immigration issues over obtaining Canadian citizenship. Hard to comment without knowing whether you will still qualify for Canadian citizenship and be compliant with your PR RO if you can’t postpone the interview and your citizenship application is denied or you chose to withdraw it.

I am basically looking to prepone the interview if possible, not postpone it. Because of my situation, I need to have both Canada and US visas. What do you mean by if I still qualify for citizenship?

It will be up to IRCC whether you can reschedule and for how long. The reason behind the need to reschedule may also have an impact. For example if you needed to reschedule the interview due to a loved one’s serious illness and you are the only caregiver that would be viewed differently as not being able to come to Canada because of your immigration status in the US. The US shares immigration information with the US and this is not an uncommon situation so be honest and see what happens. It is impossible to say what IRCC will do but they could also ask you to refile your citizenship application if you can’t make it to an interview during a certain period of time. The fact that you need an interview means your file was flagged to ensure you meet the criteria. You will have to ensure you still meet the criteria for citizenship if you had to apply again. When people decide to leave right after applying for citizenship with minimal buffer time this comes with some risks.
