Hi everyone, looking for facts and similar experiences.

Claimed asylum in Canada, accepted, now PRs (and ready for citizenship application). Mother's mom died in an accident in other country than home country. She wanted to go to country where her mother died for the final rituals, she cannot go back to home country and it did not happen in home country either.

She applied for a Refugee Travel Document. First application was rejected, I think for lack of guarantor/witness. In panic she also applied for a home country passport. Both the RTD on reapplication and the home country passport were delivered like in same date, but she never travelled anywhere on either one, not to home country, not to a third country. Both are unused, no stamps.

The plan now is: return the new passport to the home country embassy, then apply for citizenship online with only the old expired passport and the RTD.

Questions:

  1. If she returns the new passport to the embassy before applying, does she still have to list it in the citizenship application as a passport held in the last 5 years, or is returning it enough to leave it out?
  2. Online filing seems to ask only for the bio page. At what later step do they ask for all pages? Test, interview, video call on Teams, or oath? Has anyone on a video interview been asked to show all pages of every passport on camera?
  3. If IRCC later asks for all pages of a passport you have already returned to the embassy, what did you do? Is a colour scan of every page taken before return, plus the embassy receipt, accepted, or does it cause a problem?
  4. Has anyone returned an unused home country passport to the embassy before citizenship and then had a normal process, or did it still trigger questions about reavailment/cessation?
Any similar case would help a lot. Thank you.
