i got it. so after you receive that email the first time go to your account and under your submitted applications tab > details > it says updated. u login again it says submitted and then stays submitted afterwards.
 
applied on 15th jan 2014 , got PP request today i.e 22 jan 2014
applied online from USA. currently on F1 visa.

Hi guys, i applied for my kidoos visitor status extension yesterday, today morning i see the email from cic stating, you appln xxx has been updated but when i go check myCIC a/c there is no new msg or any status changes. Status still shows Open...bit confused... help needed

Hi Folks,

I received another email from CIC yesterday that your application has been updated but no new message or updates when I check myCIC account. Not sure whats going on? (submitted visitor status extn appln for my kid on 23rd Jan)

Does anyone has the same issue? If so did you contact anyone to confirm?

I had applied for multiple entry TRV for me and my wife on Jan 30. I received a similar notification on 31 with no updates. I thought may be it means some one has started looking into my case or its been assigned internally. I received the same notification on 4th Feb and there were still no updates. I ignored it again. I received Passport requests for both on 5th Feb (today). Approval in 5 working days isnt bad. I was expecting it to take a month.
 
its not just related to msgs in the inbox.

like in my case i received email on my status update that my "biometrics have been received". no msg in the inbox so be sure to scan the page for changes :)

I applied for a TRV about a month ago, I keep on receiving these emails "application updated" this is like the fourth time I have received email, but I don't see a single thing changed.


I don't know what's going on.

I am also getting same information but unable to see any message inside MyCIC. However online application submitted on 8th April 2015 but no update till now despite getting "Your application(xx) has been updated"

I also heard CAN+ indian citizan also valid who staying in USA or visited USA in last 10 years so application would be fast but I can't see such process. Any clue or idea how long does it take to get info from MyCIC.

Not every update has a message. If there is a message, you will receive a notification email about a new message, not an update. The messages are visible in your MyCIC account.

I've been facing the same issue about those ghost emails!
And FINALLY I got the answer from CIC, saying that:
"When an application is submitted online through MyCIC, you are able to view the status of different application processing stages. Once a change of status occurs, an email is sent to you with the following subject line:

Your application (X000000000) has been updated.

Please note that when an email is sent with the subject line mentioned above, it is not a new message in your MyCIC Welcome page.

When a message is sent to you, you will receive an email with the following subject line:

You have a new message in your MyCIC account.

To view your application status, you must log into your MyCIC account. On the MyCIC Welcome page, in the View my submitted applications or profiles section, you must select the Check status and messages button on the appropriate application. The application status will be displayed in the Details column of the Application Details page."


But still when I try to check the status in the details column, nothing new appears every time..

Several steps happen in the back-end that do not have a visible update. Only milestone updates are visible.
