I believe i read that in order to change a study permit to a work permit you must switch to a visitor visa first, .but you cannot apply for a new study permit or work permit within Canada. You have to apply outside Canada.

1. No it is not true. If you have a valid SA and you get an approved LMIA, then you can apply for a Work Permit in Canada. You don't have to switch to visitor.
