Would automatic visa re-validation apply if I have changed employers and have received the I797 approval notice (which has the updated I-94) for the new employer?

Technically, in all the documentation, I do not see any issues, thus searching for anyone who may have experienced this.
This is fine. Just use the i94 associated with the current employment.

My only concern is getting someone from CBP who doesn't know about this stuff at the border or who does it incorrectly.

I checked with my company attorney few days back on this as I need to use avr for landing. He didn't mention about any recent changes.

He just gave few links on avr and suggested carrying print outs of them. He also suggested carrying latest pay slips and employment letter. That's it.

He suggested to make sure that I'm properly admitted once I get back to US.

So do we get i94 online for the trip that we made using avr? If so will it have same number as the one in petition?
Can you please share the AVR links that attorneys gave. I am planning to use in next 3 days.

You will not get a new i94. They should stick the uscis receipt and stamp in your passport. Make sure that they do not make you attach the white i94 as that is not right. If you pay the $6 .. they are not doing right.
Can you please clarify what you mean by white I-94?

My h1b is expiring on 31st December, I have applied for extension, I was planning to do soft landing in first week of December, can I still use automatic visa revalidation ?

I thought AVR is for people with expired visa. Your H1b is expiring after your soft landing so you need not worry about this. Also FYI, I have landed at POE via flight a day before visa expiry and POE Officer did not raise any concern.

Thanks. I have to use avr as my Visa expired in 2014, my passport expired in 2016, I will travel with old and new passport and I-797

What about travelling in AVR when amendment/extension is in progress? I still have 5 months left in my current petition. Raised an amendment last week. Is it ok for me to travel and come back?

I used AVR this past weekend. The officer at the gate asked lot of questions about purpose of my visit and why I was in Canada (If I was PR in Canada, Why am I coming to US, Why PR in Canada). The officer inside was cool (no questions). Just let me know that my visa has been validated and I can go. She did not stamp my passport or took my finger prints or asked me pay any fee. She returned my I94. I checked my arrival history online and it is updated.

@wolfman2017 which border crossing was this? When did your Visa expire and what is the expiry date of your current I-797?
