I am an international student. arrived in September 2019. I earned 4450$ in Canada and also lost my part-time job on 15 March due to COVID-19. before coming to Canada I did have some income which together can be more than $5000. Am I eligible for this benefit?

What? He is eligible yes you are eligible self employment also counts you don't even have to have earned the money in canada

Who can apply
To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:

You did not apply for, nor receive, CERB or EI benefits from Service Canada for the same eligibility period
You have not quit your job voluntarily
You reside in Canada
You are 15 years old or more when you apply
You earned a minimum of $5,000 income in the last 12 months or in 2019 from one or more of the following sources:
employment income
self-employment income
provincial or federal benefits related to maternity or paternity leave

But ithas to be earned while in Canada is how I read the requirement. Assume they should have some sort of proof of where that income is covering from.
Yes i think if you say that you have earned the money in another country you will have to provide proof

They are not checking any proof at the moment, the only risk is they might ask you to repay the amount later if you didn't qualify.

Did you earn the $600 while in Canada although it was work done for an employer abroad?
