Hi everyone,

I worked in Canada from January 1, 2024 to present. However, during 2024, I temporarily worked remotely from my home country for about two months (June 21, 2024 to August 23, 2024).

While completing my Express Entry profile, I recorded my work experience as follows:

  • Canadian work experience: January 2024 – June 2024
  • Foreign work experience: July 2024 – August 2024
  • Canadian work experience: September 2024 – Present

Based on this breakdown, the system would award me 2 years of total work experience on February 1, 2025.

My concern is around accepting an ITA. At the time of receiving an ITA, I will not yet have completed a full 2 years of Canadian work experience. However, if I wait 5–6 weeks within the 60-day submission window, I will have completed the full 2 years by the time I submit my application and supporting documents.

Could someone please clarify whether IRCC assesses work experience as of the ITA issuance date or as of the application submission date? I’m getting conflicting answers from different sources and would really appreciate clarification.

Thanks!

As of the submission date.

@canuck78 so in this particular case if in case I receive the ITA, I should accept it and wait till I complete 2 years of work experience in Canada and then submit my application, right?

>if I wait 5–6 weeks within the 60-day submission window, I will have completed the full 2 years by the time I submit my application and supporting documents.

This will work. IRCC assumes that you'll be able to complete the work exp required to claim the points. Wait for it to happen and then hit submit your application with the right employment letter. You'll be all good!

Thanks! Also what exactly do you mean with the right employment letter? Is there anything additional I should be mentioning in the employment letter? In this case since I worked for the same company, and I broke down the work experience into 3 parts, I'll just ask them for an employment letter which documents that I worked from my home country as well.

In the LOE should I show the math to the immigration officer that I worked in canada for 104 weeks and excluded the 2 month work experience where I worked from my home country.
