Hello, i was just reading your posts on this topic and was interested in the same. I have been approaced by a firm for a contract work of 6 months (with option to extend) as Independant Contractor. As i am in the beginning of the process, i would like to request what information should I be mindful of and what stuff should i start collecting?
Also did you register your own company (with HST) or or were you registered as SBP? Any info/help regarding this would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, I am in a similar situation and need the answers. Here is my situation

I work as an independent contractor but I check all boxes of an employee - employer relationship. I have letters confirming that I worked fixed hours, on fixed pay, I had all tools provided by them and my letter specifies that it is a continuous employment and position is permanent. I don't have a T4 but I have all documents of my incorporation where I am the only employee/director/owner.

So from the thread I feel it is safe to go ahead. I am also not the primary applicant but the spouse of the primary applicant.

One additional question, my first employer is based out of US, but I have W-8BEN and proofs of tax filing in Canada plus my incorporation was always in Canada and
Hi guys, for everyone who worked as a contractor but was a de-facto employee, I got my COPR this morning!! It's been 14 months since my application but it was honestly worth the wait. I applied with a letter explaining my situation and a letter from my employer. I had an immigration lawyer (not a consultant) approve my application.

Good luck to everyone.

Did you apply to CEC? I`m in a similar situation. Don't know what to do. What kind of documents did you send?

Thank you
Hello, did you end up applying for CEC. Please how did it go? I’m a barber and I’m not sure if IRCC will label my work experience as self employed.

For CEC do you have an employer with payroll deductions and T4. If not then you are self employed so doesn't count as Canadian experience.

I have an employer but the employer wasn’t accounting for payroll deductions. But he controlled my hours and the activities of the shop

So do you get a T4? Doesn't matter if hours are set but if you don't pay into CPP, EI and have taxes deducted then self employed.
