Canadian Citizenship + H1B Grace Period.

Currently in the US. I lost my job a few weeks back but I am not searching for a new job during the 60 day grace period. I will be getting my Canadian Citizenship in August.

After that I am planning to visit India for 60 days.

Can I come back to the US after my India trip purely on the basis of being a Canadian Citizen?
After that, if I interview and clear the job interview can I switch to H1B visa?

Will this plan work?

Yes it works ! You need to exit the US border within 60 days of grace period , but once you have a Canadian passport you can stay in US for 180 days without the need for any visa. You can come back to US soil with a Canadian passport. You can live and find a job which will file a H1B transfer or you can file the transfer living in Canada with Canadian border as POE. You no longer need any H1B visa on your new passport and the officer will just issue a new I-94 with your H1B.

The only thing I can think of is just make sure you apply and get your Canadian passport before going to India. Then you should have no problem going to US from India as a Canadian citizen with Canadian passport.
