Dear all,

I got Canada PR in May 2010 for me and my family. However, only I went to Toronto during June 2010 to collect the PR and returned to singapore (citizen) after a month. Due to many family issues, I could not go to canada and now, I plan to go in May 2014. Obviously, I will not meet minimum requirement of staying 2 years in canada. Even if I get a job in canada after a month and I work for one year in canada, I am worried what will happen to my case at the time of my PR renewal?

If it is denied, if I am employed during that time, will they consider for any other temporary visa to stay and continue working?

Any one can share me your thoughts please?

Regards,
Katvel

You should not apply to renew your PR status until you have 730 days of residency in Canada in the last five years.

If your PR renewal is denied then you will be asked to leave Canada. You would the have to apply for a work permit from outside of Canada once your employer has obtain an approved LMO. It's not possible to say if the LMO and/or work permit will be approved.

You should focus on keeping your PR status. Again, wait until you have 730 residency days before you apply to renew your PR card and once you return to Canada in May 2014, don't leave until you have renewed your PR card.

Hi scylla,

Many thanks for the prompt response.

Just a question. My PR expires in June 2015. I thought after June 2015, I must not stay in Canaday. Can I technically stay in Canada without renewal of my PR and wait for 730 days to reach?

Thanks in advance.

You can certainly stay in Canada after your PR card has expired. And yes - you can remain in Canada without renewing your PR card until you have the 730 days required to meet the residency obligation.

Note that there is some chance (probably very small) that you could be reported for failing to meet the residency obligation when you enter Canada because you have been outside of the country for almost four years. If this happens, you will have to appear in front of a judge to argue why you should be allowed to keep your status. But again, I think the chances of this happening are low.
