Hi all, I am also joining this discussion which is quite old. My child who is turning 3 year old next month is having minor development delay. He is having delayed speech, little difficulty in walking and understanding the situations. He is presently undergoing various therapies. I am about to create my profile next month after successfully processing WES and IELTS. What are the possible challenges I might face in PR application and how can I address? Requesting you to share your valuable experiences and ideas. Thank you in advance.

(If there are more such parents can we create a common watsup group or so have fruitful discussion)

I know my reply is so late. But hoping on helping others that has similar problem. When we had the medical exam the GM notice also that my son ( he is 3years old that time) Have speech delay and recommended some test. This cause us 4 months delay on our papers. He had hearing test, and Psych-ed exam but all normal except for speech delay and they suspect learning disabilities. The Psychologist recommend speech therapy and preschool. But when CIC received all required test they approved our application. Now where living in Vancouver for almost 4 years and now waiting for our citizenship application. My son is doing well and receiving speech therapy at their school every week. I hope everything is well on your kid.

He
Our medical was expired due to various medical furtherance of my 6 yr old son who underwent various assessment sessions with developmental pediatrician. cic even requested hearing test, behavioral assessment including IQ evaluation. The result of his IQ evaluation was not GDD ( global developmental delay). He got an average in his overall IQ evaluation. Its very hard to find developmental pedia ( Manila, Philippines) and if found one surely it will cost so much time to get an appointment and its very costly..and the issuance of their reports took so much delays..and a lot of patience for follow ups..

On Sept 1, CIC requested remedical for the whole family ( since our fist medical was already more than 1 yr) . we scheduled the medical right away..After a week, I received an email requesting another additonal medical reports for my 6 yr old son...( same letter content that i received more than a year ago) . I am already hopeless and dont know where to look for developmental pedia who will do the required report within in less than 60days time frame..pls help..
Hello mam.. I just want to ask how is your application now. I am in the same situation as yours now. The panel physician referred us to developmental pedia and our appt will be on april 26 2019.i can not wait that long. So i searched for another dev pedia on my own. I found one in quezon city. Although im a bit skeptic if she is accredited by the immigration. But i checked on phil society of developmental and behavioral pediatrics and they said that she is a fellow. Hoping the assessment of my daughter will turn out fine and that the immig will recognize her assessment..

The medical inadmissibility criteria changed last summer so your have a decent chance at approval. You would have been denied based on the previous criteria. Although Canada has universal health coverage in reality it is only partial universal healthcare. Some of your child's current therapies may be covered by the Canadian healthcare system but there are likely to be wait lists and limits on how many appointments you can receive. I would not move until one parent had secured a job with extended healthcare benefits. Many jobs don't include benefits especially contract or lower wage jobs. You will likely still have to pay for stuff out of pocket and also become a somewhat therapist yourself. Schooling is the other issue. You may have to consider private education if you feel like your child is struggling in a public school. Don't want to sounds to pessimistic but wanted to give an accurate portrayal of the issues you may face and things you should consider. Some have an unrealistic view of the healthcare, school and social services systems that they will have access to. Would encourage you to do lots of research. I m sure their may be blogs or blogs around showing the real struggles that families may face. Make contact with other Canadian parents and ask some questions. All depends on your child's needs.

Our GP required my son to see their certified pediatric psychologist it takes 2 weeks for us to have an appointment. It depends on your location how long will it take for you to have an appointment. all in all it take us 3 months wait from the day me had our medical to complete all required test on my son. In my opinion most toddler don't listen to stranger/ people they just met. Don't worry every thing is gonna be alright, just be patient. good luck to your family.
Hi

She is assessed as borderline intellectual developmental disability by clinical psychologist referred by penal physician.

Further appointment is regarding cognitive developmental assessment with developmental Psychologist/Pediatrician after two months.

Yes they referred my son to undergo ASD assessment. But the results are negative just speech delay. The developmental pedia required us to do hearing test, speech assessment and therapy, and some nursery for social interaction with peers. After 3 months the CIC sent a letter to the GP to pass all result and after 1 month we got the passport request. At the present my son got diagnose Autism here in Canada

To all whose asking question better message the person. They don't get email notification when somebody quote them and ask question in the forum only when you message them. Most of the people here once approve and already in Canada they don't usually log in and check. Once you are in Canada your going to be busy, work, school or settling no time to log in here.

As we can see by this example not all panel physicians are specialist are great since they missed the autism diagnosis. With issues like autism the cost of treatment often falls on the family. They may get partial funding but coming to Canada doesn't mean cost of therapy will be covered..

Hi! Our application is still ongoing. We had our assessment last December 2018. Before the assessment, we enrolled my son to a preschool and took a hearing test which came out normal. He was diagnosed with language disorder but with a good prognosis. After that, we have attended a speech therapy. Anyway, we have not received any additional documents or an email from cic after the assessment.

If your child may have autism you should look into the change in funding for provinces like Ontario (others may follow). May not be the best thing to move to Canada.

Dear all,

Reviving an old thread. We have been asked to submit the below additional assessment for my 2 year old child.

A current assessment is required from a developmental psychologist regarding <assessment of IQ and all adaptive functions >.

I live in Abudhabi and I am having a hard time in finding a developmental psychologist. What should I exactly ask for when I call clinis/hospitals? Most do not know what a developmental psychologist / pediatrician is.

Clearly they are looking for developmental delays and mainly autism. If you child is possibly autistic you may want to research what is going on with treatment in Ontario and potentially spreading to other provinces. Parents were already spending money on therapy but children will be much more dependent on their parents' income now that there is a lifetime cap. It may be best to consider other options.
