Engineering is a regulated profession here in Canada. I deal with civil engineers everyday as it is a part of my job as an electrician. Its not about a smart engineer. Its about insurance companies. They are the second police here. So if someone as a civil engineer will do any work a licensed engineer have to assume the responsibility of his/her work. I mean without the signature of a licensed civil engineer the work will be illegal and No insurance. Without a licensed electrician doing the job (NO INSURANCE). So without insurance a project is not approved. I think we all know that very clearly.
Now you're just being deliberately obtuse/obfuscating your answers. :(

That's a shame, because some of us are trying to help/ give clear information. And this thread is valuable.

Are you *actually* an electrician? An IT professional? an HR pro? An engineer? Or a retail specialist? I'm asking, because you've "advised" on specific questions for several of those fields, giving information which wasn't always entirely accurate.

Again, I'm going to reiterate the importance of differentiating opinion from fact, fact from personal experience.

Brother I am a Licensed 442A Industrial electrician and I have an engineering degree from Pakistan.
My next target is OACETT membership and professional practice exam.
I also need A+ and CCNA certifications to add it to my resume as I used to link machine interfaces with web based platforms.
My targets are well defined and I am well ahead of schedules.
The final goal is to set up a business and provide one window operation to customers so that they can see all the related data directly from HMI to Web.
Thats what I had been doing back home. I had the sole distribution and service of a renowned automation company in Pakistan and I am still in contact with them. That's exactly my plan here and I couldn't do it without all these certifications. (IMPOSSIBLE)

Regarding my experience on Canada I have developed a large circle of friends around here. I used meet them on regular basis and all of them from different fields of life. As you can see in my posts that if I am not giving any advice without first hand accounts of professionals.
I have at least 5 IT professionals in my closest circle of friends so I can advice about IT based on group career discussions.

Now you should consider it a success story not a failure story which are available everywhere on this forum cursing the Canadian system for failures.

Dear salmanahm,

I was going through the previous posts and its good to have come across such a page in this forum. Dear I have plan to land in Calgary with my family in april2016.
Little bit on my back ground. I am working in UAE for the last 12 years out of which 4 years as purchase manager and 8 years as sales and marketing manager. I am a commerce graduate from delhi.

1. What advice you can render to me regarding any course or certification that i should consider to secure a job?
2. How well the market in Calgary, do you think, will get after 4-5 months?
3. Is it a good decision to go to Calagry or should we consider other places in Canada? We chose that place as we have a relative to live with, initially.
4. Can u suggest any field that is in good demand (considering the experience and qualification) as i am ready to change course in that country?

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.

Dear salmanahm,

1. What advice you can render to me regarding any course or certification that i should consider to secure a job?
http://www.sait.ca/contact-us-main-sait-contact-page.php

2. How well the market in Calgary, do you think, will get after 4-5 months?
No idea brother as I dont have any connections there. My first cousin lives there but I am out of contact.
3. Is it a good decision to go to Calagry or should we consider other places in Canada? We chose that place as we have a relative to live with, initially.
If there is someone to support initially then for u thats the right place. Ask them about job market and most important acceptability of immigrants into jobs. Ontario does have biggest job market and acceptability for immigrants is high.
4. Can u suggest any field that is in good demand (considering the experience and qualification) as i am ready to change course in that country?
Try to explore the other part of yourself and do some job research on indeed, job bank and other job boards. I cant say anything about Calgary but if u have good marketing skills than property management course and certification is the best thing to do.

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.

TMMC is hiring.
Look for a matching job and apply here
https://tmm.taleo.net/careersection/10300/jobsearch.ftl?lang=en&portal=2860160078

Today I went for a test. It was a patience test. 4 hours of non stop testing. Technical and psychological. Technical testing was trade specific and much more practical than ministry exam. Other tests IQ, EQ and dexterity were mandatory for everyone.
Tests will be conducted in Conestoga college Kitchener.
Thanks for my trade license I was the only one for skilled trade job in my group but there was another group waiting outside when I came out and they are testing two groups per week since past week. Next week they will continue. Probably they will give a chance to every applicant.

Any profession that is regulated needs licensure, that's the very purpose of it being a regulated profession.. Its an easy thing to find out, just type in the profession one is looking for on Job Bank and all the details are available there. One can also get an idea about job requirements, opportunities and the provinces were it is in demand ..

Today finally a staffing agent admitted fake job ads. I will quote exactly what she said when I called and asked her that you advertized a job in October and it is still there. Are you really hiring someone or should I consider it another one of fake job ads.

"Well Mr Salman this job is not fake at all. We anticipated a possible job opening and will be keeping the resumes in our database for selecting best possible candidates matching appropriate skills. Unfortunately this job you are interested in has not been created but we know that client will b hiring in January next year."

Hi salmanahm ,
First of all, I want to thank for this very informative thread that you have started, man you deserve a reward for this ;D
I am a mechanical engineer with three years experience, i plan to move int to canada this summer and i have some questions if you could (you or any other member) answer me, i will really appreciate it .
So here are my questions.
1- Whats the best city/province to settle in for Mecanichal Engineers ?
2- You have illustrated the importance of certifications in having a good job. So, What certifications related to my field sould i have ? or can i start preparing before i land ?
3- What do you propose as a first surviving job ?
I dont want to change my expertise field that is why it is important for me to have a first job in my field, not really as an engineer degree job but a job in the mechanical field would be great for me
Thanks in advance for your help.
:)

Hi Render
Please find below the answers of questions.
1- Every city has its pros and cons but I believe Ontario so far has most opportunities and acceptability of immigrants on jobs is much more than other provinces. But I would suggest to do some research in your career and that depends on which sector you belong to.
I mean mechanical engineer with Oil and gas experience should be going to Alberta and Automotive is a big employer in Ontario.
2- That depends what kind of experience you have. If it is Automotive manufacturing than Six sigma black belt, 5S, Kaizen, Lean manufacturing. Recently a friend of mine with degree in mechanical eng from India and six sigma black belt got a job in magna as a lead quality technician. PIC group is also hiring and training mech engineers. All they need is six sigma black belt.
For HVAC and other mechanical traits I dont have a good advice but go for P Eng license.
3- For a lot of new comers I have proposed just I have done it. Ontatio Security Guard license is the best thing to do for a survival job. Its a $500 investment which gives you enough peaceful time to study and earn at the same time if you are able to find a peaceful site.

Hi,

As i am planning to land near by in Canada i am little bit confused about choice of province. As i have got visa under FSW 2014 in that i have mention my interest to settle down in Calgary (alberta) but now i want to settle down in Brampton (Ontario). In my COPR they have mention intersted city Edmonton but in visa it is IM -1 so my agent is telling me you can get down aby where in Canada except Quebec Province. So, will officer at toronto airport ask me that why are you landing here instead of Alberta? I am very much confused in this.

So need expert advice from all you expert people who are landed or planning to land there.

Regards,

Thanks in advance..............
