How does a non visa exempt student get a coop placement in Canada? What visa is required and what does employer have to do? Does position have to be advertised as it would for LMO? Any suggestions on locating employers willing to hire coop students? Many thanks for sharing your ideas.

Yes - the position has to be advertised and go through the LMO + work permit process (regardless of whether the student is visa exempt or not). Because of this requirement (specifically the LMO), it's unfortunately next to impossible to get a co op placement as an overseas student.
