Here is a little bit of information on my situation:

I am currently an international student studying in Canada, I have been here for 3 years now.

My old passport from my country of residence expires on the 29th of December, and as a result so do my study permit and visa.

I have gotten a new passport and applied for my study permit extension, after which I will apply for a new visa.
I currently have a ticket to go home for the holidays for the 15th of December and return in January, but at this point it looks like I probably won’t get my study permit on time, and I definitely don’t have enough time to get it and also apply for my visa before my ticket date.

I can move my ticket forward, but it would be the first time in my life I won’t be home with family for Christmas, which I would rather avoid, is it possible for me to leave and return to Canada on the 27th, 2 days before my visa expires? If I show the border patrol agent that I’m waiting on my study permit application which I applied for in Canada will that be okay? Or will they not allow me into the country since my documents are about to expire?

I would really appreciate any insight anyone could provide, thank you so much

I believe you should be fine, but the things is that before the school resumes, you will be out of status but hopefully you get it on time. But why did you wait until last minute though? you should have already applied for extension like about 4 months or more ago

Thank you for replying, I found this screenshot on the cic website so it looks like I should be fine concerning continuing my studies, since I applied before the expiry date.

I went off looking at the application processing times, but I was looking at the wrong one, I looked at regular study permits which take 6 weeks, instead of study permit expressions, which take 99 days as of the last time I checked.

concerning actually getting back into the country though, you think I should be okay?

You'll be fine. Carry proof of the extension app.
