hi.

I'm thinking of going to Canada to visit my wife while waiting for this stupid never ending process that is now reached over a year and wait there with her. its an outland application so when i get the papers i would need to do entry with them to Canada.

but in order to do that i need to go to the border with USA and re enter as i heard. now i don't have a visa to USA so i cant do it? or i can? anyone with a similar experience can share it? thanks!

The process is called "flagpoling" and because you don't actually have to enter the US to do it, you don't need a US visa. You go to the land border, tell US immigration that you are flagpoling and they give you an administrative refusal. You then take that back to Canadian immigration and land.

Are you from a visa exempt country? It may be very difficult to get a TRV if not. Make sure you find the guidelines of the proof required to submit with your application, and if possible add even more.

I did flagpoling when I became a permanent resident. I went to Lake Erie border in Buffalo and was driving towards US border when I saw that there was a small gap for me to do a U turn.
So I did a U turn and went back to Canadian border without having to go all the way to US, I was spared of having a refusal

Anyways you can see whats the best alternative when you are actually doing it

Best of luck

If you are already in Canada, then after you get COPR you do flagpole landing at any US land border. You do NOT need a US visa to do this.

Administrative refusal may sound scary but it will not leave any actual "refusal" on your record. Don't worry. It is just a procedure without record.

That is why I asked if you were or not. Entry to Canada is not guaranteed regardless.

The thing is they will think you would stay should the application be refused. I would suggest getting a return ticket. Possibly a letter of employment saying you are needed for return.

I think people tend to get paranoid in these situations. I am sure like many others on this forum, if you just say your coming to visit your spouse and show a return ticket it will be fine. A lot of other people have done it.

Just make sure you have extra docs proving why you need to return (as a back up).

On a slightly different note:

I was also worried about leaving the country with my children (on a one way ticket) to Egypt. I read tons of sites saying they would not allow us to board without documentation saying I had a right to take them. I convinced myself they would think I was abducting them. I made sure I had all custody/court docs. Not once was I asked to even show them.

Don't fret, I am sure it will work out!

Hello :)

I just wanna ask how to apply for a u.s visa? I'm a care giver here in ontario and my employer asked me if I can get a u.s visa so i can go with them when they travel somewhere in new york or buffalo for a visit.

Hope anyone could help me.
Thank you!
