If I'm sponsoring my spouse, can I just send this month's bank statement or do I need all last 12 months worth? from what I gather, it doesn't apply if you are sponsoring your spouse.

yes although there is no minimum income requirement for sponsoring only your spouse, you must submit something showing any income that you have. they want to see some kind of income or savings to show that you are able to support your spouse (take care of all essential needs) for the first three years of PR. you also must submit option-c printout for the last taxation year (2010). if you are unable to provide option-c, it is required that you submit your work payslips or bank statements (showing other income like investments and interest) dated back 12 months to present.
hope this helps and good luck! :)

Do I have to send the last 12 months of bank statements? I am sending in my option C but from 2000. I am sending in my 2011 US income tax which I don't work but my husband does...as well as his corporate taxes fromthe business he owns. I have the last 12 months of his pay stubs...is the last 12 months of bank statements necessary?

Why do you need any bank statements? I dont think that is needed. All you have to do is explain you dont work, he supports, send in a couple pay stubs, option c and maybe a job letter. They dont need to see you bank account, but thats my opinion.

If you are using the bank statement as proof you have a joint account, one statement will be enough - or maybe one from the first year you had it and one from now, just to show how long.
If it's a saving account and you just want additional proof you two will have enough money to support yourselves, one recent one will be enough as well.

Do you think I need to send a saving's account statement to show how much money we have in there? I already have a letter from my parents stating we can live with them in Canada until we settle in with a job, etc. I have other proofs that we are in a relationship like rental agreement, insurance for auto and rental, our 3 kids' birth certifcates w/our names on it, electric bill. do you think they'll want to see how much we have in savings? do most people send that?

I didnt send anything like that...I personally dont think it is neccessary. Isnt your spouse american? It's highly unlikely they will think your husband wont be able to gain employment here in Canada. I dont think bank statements are the norm in spousal sponsorships since it's income exempt. i think they just want to know you will stay off welfare, so from what you have stated your husband is more than capable of being employed and earning money in Canada.

You do not have to send in bank statements at all, but I would send in any proof of a joint bank account (chequing, savings, whatever). It's just two more pages of evidence (or so). Americans aren't usually rejected, and especially not for insufficient proof of ability to support themselves, but again, showing how much savings you have as a couple won't hurt.

Thanks so much everyone! I really want to send the application off today cause Feb 10th was my husband's medical exam....and now is already end of March!! I'm going to try Monday!! I can't wait to get it sent off, I still have a few minor things to copy. It's been hard with a new baby...baby boy is 3 months old...and getting things done...so little time. I have 2 other boys as well. Thanks again.
