Just to add that assume this family know that owning property in Canada gives them no additional benefits from an immigration viewpoint, they are still temporary residents subject to the same restrictions in Canada and on each new entry into Canada, never guaranteed

yes they can, you might be looking at the taxes though (but some rules omit paying it if its a 2-4 years educational instutuoin) i say check the gov page for non resident taxes.

mortgage wise, smaller institutions do but rate might be little higher (4-5% ish)
