But the shock to me comes from the fact that it is Canada and not some developing nation. As we know Canada is still a rich country and has lower income inequality compared to other nations.

How many of those who participated in this thread own a home? (no mortgages, borrowing, etc - plain simple your home is yours and no one can reclaim it back coz of whatever)

So you would be shock with the condo price of Manhattan NY, USA too? How is USA compare to Canada?

At least in Vancouver, there is always a chance that the government can reclaim regardless one has a clear title (no mortgage, borrowing, etc) or not - for example if someone fail to pay property taxes.
