Yeah it is a good news. I got request for updated scanned or photocopy of my passport with at least 6 months validity. The email came in at 7.22 am EST meaning it was sent from Ottawa at 5.22 am. Isn't that terrific?

I really don't know what next...guess PPR.
JJC, if you are from a visa exempt country then this must be PPR isn't it? because for some they only request a photocopy of passport. Probably I'm wrong.....others, what do you think?

alwayspositive,

Sooner or later, every and each one of us in this forum will post that good news of PPR and share the joy of the moment with other fellow members here. In the mean time, the good and sweet predictions and those "strong feelings", which I like a lot, give more hope to and encourage the waiting individuals who have come a long way.
Something I really like about this forum is the lovely members who cheer each other up.
Good job guys and hats off for you all.

I saw this article on how immigration officers screen applications. It think it is worth reading.

http://www.thestar.com/news/immigration/2014/02/01/a_rare_look_inside_the_black_box_of_canada_immigration.html

Some of the stuck out statements in the article:

“The system allows racial biases to creep in the selection process. They could use their authority to put it bluntly and crudely, to keep Canada white,” Satzewich noted.
While rejection rates are undoubtedly higher in some visa offices than others, Satzewich said it should not be interpreted that visa officers racially discriminate against applicants or treat those from some countries more harshly than others to keep them out of Canada.
I like your post

Proposed changes to citizenship law:

"Residency requirements will be lengthened so that an applicant must be present in Canada for four years —1,460 days — in a six-year period and applicants must be in Canada for at least 183 days per year in four of the six years.

Also, under the proposed measures any time spent in Canada as a non-permanent resident — such as a foreign student or temporary worker — will no longer meet citizenship residency requirements."

This is not good at all for people who have been living in Canada before becoming PR

If I am correct it is now a five year period, out of which you have to be in Canada for three years out of five... Correct?

Do you know when these changes become law?

They are making everything harder and harder that is for sure.

Yes, you are correct, it is 3 out of 5 years. Any single day spent in Canada as temporary resident count as half day.

Although it is not yet a law as the bill was just presente to the House of Common today. But i have no doubt it is going to pass.

The goal post keeps shifting everyday. Canada Immigration is becoming less and less appealing. One wonders what kinds of changes will take place within the six years of waiting to qualify for citizenship... shifts in goal post again? Well... all we can do is hope and pray for the best...

Thanks, JJ-C. This is also my concern that I was trying to find out regarding the newly proposed Citizenship Act. Really glad to see it here but sad for the result. By the way, can you please share the source? Thanks.
