LANDING:

I flew from Edmonton to Toronto on Monday, rented a car, and drove to Buffalo.

I spent the night in downtown Buffalo, and then walked to HSBC Center at 0640. I was told to wait in the lobby a the Tim Hortons, and come up at 0730. At 0730, I was the third person in line, and the guard scanned my passport. I went up to the 30th floor to the consulate. The officer took my passport and the covering email and my photo. I was told to wait until my number was called. That was 0750.

At 0910, my number was called, and I had a visa in my passport valid for almost 11 months. The officer also gave me the COPR. The officer advised me to wait for an hour or so before returning to Canada. I toured Buffalo until 1130, and then crossed the Peace Bridge into Canada.

I approached officer, and I told her that I was landing as a Permanent Resident. She asked for my passport, COPR, and whether there were goods to follow. I told her that I had completed my B4 since I would import my car at a later date. She gave me a yellow paper, and was told to go inside. There was no wait to see an officer who asked for my yellow form, COPR, and passport. He asked for an address to send the card, so I gave him a mailing label with the address. He said that the proof of funds were unnecessary since I had was already working in Canada. He stamped my passport, crossed out the visa, and stapled the COPR into the passport. He advised me to expect the P.R. Card in a month, but that I could probably leave Canada by air with a U.S. passport without difficulty. The whole process took less than 10 minutes.

I then approached customs, and provided him with my B4 form. The officer spent about 10 minutes typing, and then advised me that get a receipt from the cashier to import my vehicle later. From the first guard with whom I spoke to driving away took less than 25 minutes.

I then went to Service Canada in Ft. Erie to get a permanent SIN. I also stopped by the bank to advise them of my permanent status.

I'll return to Edmonton to practise law on Thursday. I plan to expand my practice from property and regulatory law to include Canadian and U.S. immigration law. I figure that having successfully processed my own FSW application will be a good selling point to clients.

I want to thank everyone on this forum for their thoughts and kind words.

Canada --- true north, strong and free!!!!!
