By the way, it just says it is approved and no other docs are there to see. I remember folks mentioning that there is a pdf somewhere which tells the validity etc. Is it an email or does it get updated directly on mycic account?

No, it's not a scan of your work permit. It's just a document simply indicates the duration of your new owp and the type of your owp. That's it. I think you can use this to continue working since it's an official confirmation letter from CIC.

I got the pdf updated in my account. But its a little confusing. It doesn't mention anything about being an open work permit.

The Type column says "Permit - WP-EXT" and the Validity is till 2016/06/30, is this what everyone gets?

Mine said that too, and the permit arrived as open, so you should be good.
