Congrats CEC2013!
How long did it take to process? Did you submit it with your AOR?

Thanks! :)

Submitted:

Application Forms
Explanation letter (what and why I'm apply for - OB485)
AOR
Scan of all passport pages
Picture (scan)

March 20 to April 30 ... 41 days. Assuming 1-2 weeks in mail, after notification.

As of today processing time on CIC website it shows they are working on files submitted on 9th March and this is updated on 24th April.
and today they have reached till 20th March, the speed of processing is very uneven suddenly it gains speed and suddenly it stops moving ...lol :o

Congratulations CEC2013

Thanks guys!

One thing I forgot to mention...when BOWP is approved, the clock starts. Meaning, the new term of 1 year begins and supersedes any amount left on the previous permit. So, my recommendation would be to wait for as long as you can until you apply for BOWP.

I technically only got 10 months, since they approved me for it 2 months in advance (even though I requested a 1 year term starting on the day my current expires). Good luck everyone...

Hope that helps someone!

Average time of a AOR coming through is about 40 days after application is submitted. Thats if they dont send it back after 30 days saying its incomplete!

Im in the same boat - but had submitted my application exactly 40 days before my current WP expired. It is likely my AOR will not be recieved in time, so I spoke to CIC about this and they said I can still submit my application for an OWP before my WP expires, with an explanatory letter. When I recieve my AOR, I then link it to my OWP application.

As soon as you submit an application for an OWP before the expiry of your current WP, you will go on "implied status" when it does expire, until they make a decision on the new OWP. When on implied status you retain the same conditions as your expired WP, however you cannot leave the country or you will forfeit these rights.

Hope that helps :)

Hi aand - after I read your comment above I called CIC today as well and asked them about this procedure. Of course, the agent gave me a conservative answer stating that I would miss an important part of the criteria (the AOR) and that it would likely get refused. Now I am wondering whether he just gave me this answer because he can't give me any hope (he did say that he can only tell me what the rules are, nothing else), or if it's really very unlikely that you can receive the BOWP when you apply for it without the AOR.

I am quite certain all my forms are correct and I am completely eligible - though the only thing I am worried about is that my police certificate was also missing in my application. I have received it now and contacted the CIO office to let them know it has arrived (my application was received by them yesterday). So I am hoping they will agree to include it and not send my application back.

In any case, I was wondering if anyone has gone this route already (applying without AOR) and received the BOWP after all? It's hard to imagine that they will refuse it merely based on time issues, but alas, rules are rules.

@PA1984- where did you find this information about CIC?i didn't know such a thing existed where you can get an idea what applications they are processing?

Hi LCM21,
Yeh, CIC told me to send in the OWP at the last minute (i.e., days before the expiry) with an explanation letter. If it is taking 40 days to process online OWP at the moment, then that extends the time to hopefully receive the AOR and link it to your OWP application. The purpose of the BOWP is to remove the "LMO" process for eligible PR candidates that are wanting to continue working. If we cannot get the BWOP then the alternate is to go through the LMO process with your employer.

That is what I figured - thanks! I am not sure if it's 40 days to process the OWP with an online application, but I believe it is for receiving the AOR. Have you gotten any updates on your BOWP? (by the way - when you say OWP you mean the same as BOWP, correct?)

Can anyone help me on following queries:

1) My closed WP extension application is in process, can I also apply for BOWP in parallel ?

2) If I apply for BOWP and after that if i have to leave Canada, will I still receive successful BOWP ?

3) can BOWP be also extended after 1 year ??
