Hi,

I have applied for my PR in July and medical has been cleared in August. I applied for a WP with a new employer in July and still waiting. Can I also apply for a BOWP in addition to a WP? Someone said yes, but I want to confirm from experts. My Current WP expires on 31st August and if it's possible to apply for a BOWP, I will apply ASAP.

The reason to do this is because WP is taking too long and I might get the BOWP before the WP.

Tagging @jes_ON, @scylla for their opinions.

Hi, do you have a valid LMIA for the work permit? If yes, you are not eligible for a BOWP.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...nt-applicants/bridging-open-work-permits.html

The following foreign nationals do not qualify for a BOWP:
  • foreign nationals in Canada under section R186 who are exempt from the work permit requirement
  • foreign nationals who have let their status expire and must apply for restoration to return to temporary resident status
  • foreign nationals whose work permits are valid for longer than 4 months or who already have a new LMIA that can be used as the basis for a new work permit application
  • foreign nationals applying for a BOWP at a port of entry (POE) or visa office
  • spouses and dependants of principal permanent resident applicants
  • foreign nationals who are inadmissible to Canada

No, my work permit is LMIA exempt.

So, can I apply for a BOWP in parallel to my ongoing WP application? The WP application in progress is also LMIA exempt.
