good advises about the police certificates, ccunnington :)

on the application form IMM0008, #12, the applicants has to list:
-ALL PREVIOUS COUNTRIES HE/SHE LIVED IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS MORE THAN 6 MONTHS-

the application guide is clearly saying, to provide POLICE CERTIFICATES for ANY countries you lived in

not doing it at the beginning will just cause delays later, because they will ask for it
In this case, canadasoon2013 won't be able to submit a police certificate from Germany yet because he hasn't been there for 6 months yet. But I can guarantee that CIC will ask for it once he has been there for that length of time. So for now, the application should go in without that particular police check, but he should be prepared to get it as soon as requested. Start doing the research now so that he can get it done quickly once requested! Funny, I haven't seen him on here since his first post....

Hi,

I'm starting the sponsorship process soon!! ;D As for now, we are gathering all the required documents but we are a bit confused on whether we need to send all this documents (copy of civil documents, birth certificate, marriage certificate etc) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bogota to get them stamped (Apostillar/ Legalizar) or is the stamp from Notaria enough? (documentos autenticados)

Also, I've heard there are two ways to send the application package. 1) Have my husband send all his documents to me in Canada and send all the package to Mississauga from here. 2) Send the forms, my documents and photos to Mississauga and get my husband to send all his civil documents, medical exams and Police Clearance to the Canadian Embassy in Bogota? What's the difference and which one is the fastest way?

We are a bit lost so any feedback will be greatly appreciated!!! :D

Hi and welcome

Any documents that are not in English or French, need to be translated, and the translations and originals both notarized. They don't need to be apostled.

Your application has to be submitted as a complete package to Mississauga. Don't send anything to the Embassy in Bogota. Everything MUST go to Mississauga first. Once you have been approved as the sponsor, then Mississauga will transfer your application to the appropriate visa office, so have your husband send all of his information to you first, then you can organize everything and send it to Mississauga.

I recommend that both of you download and fully read the available guides for this process and FOLLOW the instructions.
Search the internet for
IMM3998 General Instructions
IMM3063 Special Instructions for Bogota

These guides has answers for many of the questions asked on this forum....including yours.

1) Collect all the needed documents, completed forms, supporting materials, etc and send it to your partner to Canada in a safe & secure way (you do not want to get it lost !)
2) Add other completed forms, proof of payment, documents, supporting materials, etc... and sent it to the Mississauga processing center.........do NOT send by regular mail, they have a different address to send it with a courier, like Purolator, UPS, Fedex

Do NOT do the medical exams now, because they would expire in 1 year, and you might need to do it again, and you have to pay again!
Do it after you received notifications, that sponsor approved, application sent to Bogota !

Thank you guys for the info!

One more question :$ My husband is a university student who lives with his parents so he might be considered as dependant child (+22), right? In this case, his parents need to do medical exams and police clearance also??? (His the only one being sponsored and we don't have any children)

He's married to you. Dependent children only apply to children that YOU AND HE might have together. His parents don't need medicals or police checks since they are not being sponsored, they just need to be listed on the form.

I have not posted in a long time but My husband and I sent our application on Feb 6 2012 and we have done 2 medicals now since the first one had expired. He was asked to do his police checks and send a copy of his libreta militar with translation. He will be sending it off today. As of now we have everything in order and im assuming I am in the final stages. How much time do you all think we have left? Is the 6 to 8 weeks a very accurate time frame? Will he get a passport request soon after this? Just so excited!!!!! Raising our son alone has been difficult we just want to be together as a family. So any insights would help! I have followed many of your cases and the movement from Bogota recently has been inspiring . So any news from anybody would be super helpful! Thank you all and have a super day! :D

Not at all, I am a university student, live with my parents and althouth I have a job, I am not dependant child just like your husband. Dependant child is under 18 yrs.

Well its hard to say exactly how much longer it will take, since you've had some other obstacles to overcome, but if this is the last of the information they require, then you're likely getting close. It does take 6-8 weeks for the embassy to receive the police check, but once they get that and there are no other documents required, you should get a passport request. Once that happens, it's usually only a week or 2 after they receive the passport to get it back to you along with the COPR. So to be on the safe side, maybe anticipate another 12 weeks, as long as they now have everything they need!

Good luck

Hey guys!! Did anyone have to get a police certificate from the fbi!? Immigration is asking my husband for this paper. But they say that he has 60 days to send it. But the fbi website says that it takes from 16-18 weeks to get it! Ugh idk what to do..this is so stressful! If anyone had to get this..how long did it take you to get it? Thanks
we did have to get an fbi check, and it came within 6 weeks, although we did write to them with the request that it was urgent and we needed the check immediately (give them a date)

Hello,
I received an email saying the CIC received our application and I could track our application with the UCI number but when I enter the UCI number on the tracker it says it does not recognize my information. How long should it take to appear there?

Also, it said it received my sponsorship application on behalf of my husbands name and it put his two last names instead of his first name and last name. Should I be concerned about this? His name is on the application so many times that I can't imagine it would be a problem but just want everything to go as smooth as possible. Thanks.
