I'm look for advice as to what my next steps should be. My wife and I have been waiting for over 1 year and we have heard nothing from Bogota. Here's where we stand:

I'm sponsoring my Ecuadorian Wife, we sent our application off in October 2011. AOR was emailed Nov 4th 2011 and I received the sponsorship approval letter on Jan 12th 2012 which indicated that the file was forwarded to Bogota.

E-CAS shows application received Nov 4th 2011 (when Mississauga got the file)and that Medical results have also been received. (We did the medical before mailing the application off) shortly after my wife's address was updated but other than that we've had no movement on the file. We haven't received any acknowledgment from Bogota that the file was received nor have we had a request to pay the system service fee.

If I go with the Nov 4th 2011 AOR date from Mississauga that puts us over 15 months now, processing times is listed at 17 months but seeing that her Med's are over 1 year old and they have yet to request the system service fee I can't see her file being completed in 2 months. Do you think I can start making some noise with my MP? Email the embassy? What do you guy's suggest I do?

How are you receiving your communications from Bogota? Email? Phone Calls, regular mail?

thanks a lot,
If I were you, I'd order your GCMS notes. This is the file that is created and data entered onto by any visa officer that has worked on your file so far. It has everything from the medical data, police and security checks, any concerns that the visa officer has etc. It only costs 5 bucks, and they take 30 days to get.

yeah I ordered GCMS notes this week.
Strange that you haven't received an AOR from Bogota. They do send out AOR's. We got ours about 4 months after our file had been transferred to Bogota. Since then, we've had 2 other emails from them requesting documents and then the passport. Wait until you get your GCMS notes, and if they don't show any movement on the file, for example if the background checks haven't been started yet, then try contacting them by email.

Thanks for the reply. I should have ordered the notes a long time ago. We are still under the 17 months but it concerns me that they have not been in communication with us. There should have been some movement on the file, I'm worried that they might not even have our file started. Mail is bad in Ecuador and they are always losing things but we haven't received any emails or phone calls so I don't think they have even tried to contact us.

Hi everybody,
it's been a while,
well to update about my proccess,
I'm ecuadorian wife being sponsored by my canadian husband.
We got married on may 5, 2011
They received our papers at Visa Office in Canada on november 3, 2011
My husband was approved as sponsor on January 13, 2012
My case was sent to the Canadian Embassy in Bogota, Colombia on January 13,2012
I was asked an interviewed on November 28, 2012
I went to the interview with my husband because he came to visit me to Ecuador for a second time in August, 2012. The interview was very easy, they mostly asked about me, my education, as well my religion because I'm a muslim revert since I was 19 but I met my husband when I was 21 on the internet, so most of their question were actually focus on my religion and how my non muslim family reacted to my religion and my marriage with a muslim...I replied their question and they were satisfied with the answers.
I had to redo my medical exams on November 29, 2012.
Finally on January 15, 2013 they asked me to send my passport.
I sent my passport on January 18, 2013 by a service called servientrega, which is the same service they use to send me letters.
They got the passport on January 16, 2013.
Now I'm waiting for getting my passport back with the visa God willing.
I don't know how long it will take them to send it back to me.
Any idea how long this can take???
When I was interviewed, I asked about how long it takes, the officer told me they just keep the passport for few days and then send it back with the visa but he also told me that the office in bogota had many delays in their process because of some family tragedies that some of the officers had so I don't know if things are getting any faster this year, any idea?? I would appreciate if you can share with me times that has taken to get the passport back with the visa..
Hi there,

Did you get your visa?

......have you heard, that anybody received a shorter one, like 30 days or less ?

The visa expires the same day your medical expires. You have to land before the expiry date as they don't extend them.

I know, it can not be longer, when either the medical or passport expire, whichever date comes sooner.
However, I thought, they will not give it longer than 60-90 days, even if more time remains on the medical or passport.

In Canada
Hey guys,

Im new to this forum, Im applying for my permanent residency within Canada but Im having a little trouble getting my police certificate from Colombia. I asked my sister who lives in Bogota to go to Banco de Occidente and make the 60.000 deposit. However in the Bank they said that the account number 223005463 (the one from CIC's web page) does not match with the name of the company "Risk Management SA" but rather with a different company called Defence Systems SA.

I was wondering if any of you have had any troubles with this or if any of you would have any comments that might help.

Cheers,
