Just a FYI...the way senate works.

You can fault Trudeau for that for cutting off the Liberal senators making them independents. They don't have to follow Trudeau at all. If Trudeau didnt do that, you would have a bunch of liberal yes men/women. No difference from the conservatives. Trudeau could have easily ram the bill through. It's called politics.

I am curious as to how many of the 3/4 rule applicants who have flooded the CIC before 4/6 deadline have gotten citizenship and how long it took. We already heard stories of 4/6 rule applicants getting theirs as early as 6 months.

However there is a big difference as you know between then and now with regards to the fact that the applicants almost stopped since the current rules kicked in, BUT now the inflow will keep on going on a daily basis. So there will be no break of the ongoing volume of applications... a set up for a good sized backlog as you know.

Bill stacked in Senate since July 2016.. What a joke! no progress approve or disapprove but do something. Iam getting very very disappointed being in Canada for many reason. This is one of them.

Any amendments has to be sent back to the commons for vote. The bill needs to be approved in both senate and commons.

The way the senate works, two/three senators speak, then they adjourn. They do not work on the bill for the entire time. They have many other bills to discuss.
Expect all of April, and some of May, for this to pass senate.

No, I actually expected them to pass this thing about a year ago. It was supposed to be a key piece of their program, but several unforced errors caused them to have to move it to the back burner. By the time it becomes law, many of the people burned by C-24's 4/6 will not benefit from the change back to 3/5.

That's why they should do their best to push it ASAP. Amendments were introduced at a very stupid timing, and voting in favour of these amendments will just mean more delays.
