Are background checks valid as long as they are received by CIC within 3 months of being issued? Or do they actually need to be processed by CIC within the 3 months? Logic would tell me that if applications can take years to process, that it wouldn't make any sense to have to keep sending updated background checks every 3 months, right?

My boyfriend's German background check was issued mid-march. Our application was received by CIC in Mississauga April 27 and we received sponsorship approval the end of May. Our application was then forwarded onto Ottawa.

Do we need to worry about supplying a new document for CIC, or is the one we already sent sufficient?

CIC only requires that the police certificate be valid when it is received.

The default validity period is also now six months, and language on that page also suggests that police certificates from other-than-current-residence countries need only be issued some time after last residing there.

Jeez, I wish CIC would stop constantly changing stuff around.
So, we got his German police certificate while we were living in Germany, but as of May 15, he is now living with me in Canada as visitor - does this mean that his German police certificate needs to have been issued after he left Germany? Or would it still be considered his country of residence since his status here is as a visitor?

The guideline hasn't changed.

His police certificate filled the requirements when the application was submitted, and basically at that point in time everything is frozen. Only the medical exam must be renewed.
