Hi,

So I'm currently on an IEC Open Work Permit that expires on the 3rd of September this year.

I currently have a B.C. PNP Application that is underway, which I should be able to submit tomorrow pending all the documents from my work.

Am I able to work in B.C whilst waiting for the results of my PNP application if my visa runs out? And what is the process afterwards, get approval for PNP then apply for PR? Or do I need to separately apply for a work visa extension in this process?

Thanks!
Alex

Hi.. As far as my knowledge goes you can’t apply for a work permit based on pnp application. It can only be done after you get a confirmed nomination from the province. Then you can apply for a work permit with the help of work permit support letter from the province and subsequently apply for PR as well. Please check if you can extend your work permit on IEC. Alternatively you can IRCC helpline to have a authentic information. Hope that helps.

I agree with the comment above. Applying for a work permit on the basis of the PNP application is only possible once the nomination is approved. Can you clarifying what stage your application is in?

Unfortunately IECs cannot be extended on their own. So that option is out.

I'm currently in the invitation stage - should have my documents submitted by the end of the week

Once you submit the application, you have to wait until your nomination is approved. Only then would you qualify for an open work permit. I'm not 100% sure of the processing times right now but I believe it's several months.

I don't see any options right now for continuing to work past the expiry of your IEC given it expires in less than a month.

If you happen to have at least one year of work experience in Canada in a skilled profession (i.e. NOC A, B or 0), then a better approach would be to create an Express Entry profile and hope there is a CEC draw soon where you have the required number of points to be selected. Once you submit your complete application after receiving ITA, you can then apply for a bridging open work permit. Have you explored this option? Do you know if you qualify.
