Hi,

I apologize if this question has been posted/answered elsewhere. I've tried searching on the forums for this, but haven't really been able to find a clear answer on it.

Last week, I got a letter requesting my RPRF AND marriage certificate. While my lawyer claims she had us wait on submitting the RPRF payment until they requested it in order to prevent from having to request a refund (which according to her is a huge hassle) should we get denied PR, she explained that we have basically been pre-approved. Does this sound right?

However, from what I have read on the forums, I have found mixed results. Some people believe they still have to do security checks and then if all is right, they will send out the PPR, and others say they just wait on the payment and PPR comes.

Furthermore, they are requesting other documents with my RPRF, so does this mean they did their comb through just now to find missing documents and still have to go through everything once they have all the pieces?

So I'm wondering what stage the application usually is when they ask for the RPRF and what they still have left to do as far as going through our application.

If any of you can shed some light on this, I would be very grateful. Thanks!

My understanding of RPRF is similar to what your lawyer stated - you are in the final stages and so far it all looks good. It is no guarantee but if they had a lot of issues with your application, they would not request RPRF.

It's inconsistent. Sometimes RPRF is requested once they are ready to issue the visa and sometimes they ask for this when they request other missing information. So the short answer is that no one will be able to tell you for certain in your case. You'll find the vast majority of people on this forum paid their RPRF up front since paying it later tends to prolong processing by at least a few weeks. Bad advice from your lawyer to pay it later. The only reason someone should do this is if they don't have the cash to pay up front.

Yeah, I've been pretty upset all week when I learned we should've paid that up front. And since my husband paid for all the fees with the lawyer, I had no idea that they weren't all paid for up front in the beginning. Oh well, what's done is done. I guess now we have to wait… and hopefully not for too long. I'm having a hard time not letting it get to me though.

And thanks for responding! Your answer would make sense of why everything I've found so far varies. I guess I was sort of hoping there was a set path they follow. I guess we'll see where they were when I hear in the end. Haha
