As you know, US Senator and Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz was born in Calgary and was thus a natural born Canadian citizen by birth--even though he appeared to be ignorant of the fact until just before launching his Presidential bid. However, due to the nationalist pressures of US Republican politics he applied to renounce his Canadian citizenship and this was approved by CIC last year. His two minor daughters--born outside Canada to a father who was at the time of their birth a Canadian born in Canada--should have themselves acquired Canadian citizenship at birth. Does their father's renunciation of Canadian citizenship while they are minors affect them in any way? Are they still Canadian today?
