Are international students allowed to work in a field OUTSIDE of their study?

If an international student graduates in say, Social Studies, is he/she allowed to work in a field other than Social Studies in Canada after completion of his studies in Canada?

Asking this because that is not allowed in the US. (Can someone confirm this too?)

Once you graduate and receive your PGWP, you can work in any occupation that you wish it doesn't have to reflect your studies.
