Congratulations ;D.

I'm about to do my visitor extension application. I'm sending it by mail because it takes 114ish days to process, so by the time I hear anything about it I might just have PR. I'm just waiting for my printer ink to arrive in the mail so I can print off the forms and send it.
Is your status in Canada due to expire? Why don't you just apply for a new visitor visa at the border and explain that you want to stay in country while you wait out your PR. show them proof and they normally extend it. They did that for me once and I got a whole year visa for it.

If I remember right, you're from the UK, correct? What you were issued was probably a VR-Visitors Record, since you're visa-exempt and don't require a visitor's visa.

My status will expire in 30 days. I could leave Canada and try to come back in and ask for either a VR or to return for another 6 months, but from what I've read sometimes they really don't like people using this to extend status. Other's I've read have no issue. I've already had issues at the border once and I'd rather not risk being given a voluntary withdrawal again. The risk that I will be denied entry is small, but since I don't have a place to stay in the US I don't want to take that risk.

I'd rather just pay the $100 fee to extend it by mail.

yeah fair enough, was just seeing if you knew this option (which you do!) :)

theyre normally ok once a PR application is in, but then why risk it right?

Yeah, I'm just a little paranoid ;D. I don't mind not leaving Canada anyways, it's not being able to work that's killing me. I really regret procrastinating on sending off my application. I've already been here 5 months and I'm looking at another 4 at least before I get PR. I'm so bored, but it's mostly my own fault for not getting everything done for my application right away.

id be prepared for a bit longer than 4 months. expect more like 6-9 months to be more realistic. i think apps processed in 4 months are a bit of an anomaly. Not to be a downer or anything haha.

It seems like lately more and more applicants through Ottawa are getting through in 4-5 months with 6 being fairly common. They've sped up a bit recently and are hiring more case processors. I'm still prepared for it to take about 8 though, hah.

Ok this is what I was thinking. It also seems to be different depending on what country you are applying from. I took a peek at a few different country specific guides and some say photocopies, some say notorized copies. I guess just follow what your specific guide says and should be good!
Thanks everyone who responded. I'm going to see the consulate Thurs to get some things certified. It's expensive too. This is what is written in the European region checklist "Send photocopies of all other documents, unless instructed otherwise. Do not send your documents in transparency pockets, binders or folders. If your documents are not in English or French, send a notarized (certified) translation with a copy of the originals." The normal checklist says that photocopies must be certified.

I'm going to certify both our passport and Identity card photocopies to be safe. Then the photocopy of the marriage certificate and his birth certificate too.

After Reviewing emails and the checklists again, I decided that the photocopies actually don't need certifying but the translated documents need authenticating by the consulate. They were translated and authenticated by Italy already, but they need the Canadian consulate to authenticate the Italian authentication. $50 each page for that. I have the marriage certificate, police certificates and his birth certificate. So these are what I'm getting authenticated and I'm not certifying our passports and other photocopies as it doesn't say that the photocopies of these need to be certified, only that the translations need to be certified. Hopefully, if I'm making a mistake, they will give me the chance to fix it.

Hey everyone,

Can anyone tell me if I can get a work visa while I wait for the spouse visa to go through? We will be submitting next week but would like to be in Canada by mid June. We would like to rent my father in laws rental house and commercial space for a small business I have purchased July 1st. My fiancé is Canadian I'm Australian we're both in Australia now. I'm 33 she's 32 if that helps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Not true. Only photocopies of things in other languages need to be certified.

I dont need to certify a photocopy of my marriage certificate for example.
Sorry, you're 100% right! In my case almost all photocopies were translations.

Hi All,

I am just wondering has anyone who has already submitted their application been able to view their own application status online via the CIC website? The courier confirmed reciept on the 11th April 2016, but its not appearing on the online system.. :'(

I'm wondering, if we can get the official translations back, after getting the visa. Since it cost a lot to do everything and we might need it in the future.
