Finally Landed!

This forum is heaven for the immigration help seekers, but at the same time it's our responsibility to verify the information posted here and filter the crap.

For the first six months of my application I was so active on this forum and keeping up to date with the filtered information. I then decided to find different root to worry about my application rather reading forums and frustrating myself while waiting for GCMS notes inquiries.

One day an angle left a note on this forum that there are other ways to inquire about your application than just GCMS notes and that is through your local MP office. It was the turning point and I directed all my questions, curiosities, and what happens next to the local MP office.

The trick is to find MP office, which serve your region usually divided in the zones. Ask for an appointment which was pretty easy in my case I found one within couple days, they will ask you to bring all the correspondence with CIC and they will take your consent so they can inquire on your behalf and that is enough to trigger notifications on your application. They will give you call to give you updates not only what is the status of your application but also what to expect in the near future and if you don't hear in that window from CIC then call us back we will run another inquiry to get the status of application, again when and what to expect next.

Following the above footsteps made my life a lot easier and I lived last 7 months of my application process happily :). I am sharing it with you because I can understand the pain of frustration that we handle here on everyday basis and go to bed every night with an uncertain situation of mind, at least this was the case with me and I hope none of you would had or have to suffer it.

My time line!

Landed Yesterday . Yayy :)

Although there are a bunch of posts around landing. I will just share my experience in case its beneficial to anyone.

I live in GTA and was planning to go to one of the US/CAD border and complete the process. Based on the research I did, here's what I had found :
- There are three US/Can borders near the Niagara region. Queenston/Lewingston (HW 405), Rainbow Bridge (HW 420) and Peace bridge (continue on QEW)
- On the peace bridge, there is an option for U turn (without going to the US side) and up til I think Feb this year a lot people used to do that. It was convenient that you don't have to deal with one extra border agency specially if you don't have the US visa. However based on some of the posts, its not allowed any more . The rule is to leave Canada and return back
- I didn't see a lot of posts about Queenston bridge. So didn't bother looking it up , don't think there's any special advantage there.
- Most people go to Rainbow bridge (which is right beside the Falls) you can drive or just walk. Its probably the busiest too so its recommended to not go on weekends (you might face issues)

My experience :

I went to Rainbow bridge. I have a US visit visa but I don't think that matters when you want to flagpole for landing(based on what I read).

On the US border:
As soon as I drove up to the officer , she asked me whats my nationality. ( I am from Pakistan). Meanwhile I handed over my passport with the US visa page and the CoPR docs so she straightaway asked "You plan to go back to Canada for landing" and I said yes. ( I was thinking I should say that I want to go to falls or do some shopping but that wouldn't be true and probably would have caused more probing). She asked something with her supervisor and eventually gave me a yellow paper, told me to drive off to the left and on the walkie talkie told another officer there is a silver car for flag poling. There another officer took my docs, started filling in a form (the administrative refusal paper) then handed me the paper and said show this at the Canadian side and you should be ok . I drove off through the gate that is used to make a U-turn.

Canadian side:
The officer took my passport, CoPR and that white paper. Asked me if I am here for landing, if I have more then $1k, where is my spouse ( she will be landing later this year) and if I had a list of things that I need to bring in from outside of Canada. Then gave me a yellow paper and asked to go in to the building on the left. I went in there handed over my documents to an officer, waited for around 30 minutes (there were 3-4 people before me). When I was called she just asked If I had checked if all the information and spelling was correct, she corrected my initial entry date, asked me to initial and sign the CoPR and finally told me to get the SIN and OHIP changed. That's it . I had crossed the border at 2 pm on Monday and it took me an hour in total.

About the administrative refusal, its not a big deal. Based on what I read, it doesn't effect your future travel. They actually have the template and it says "The individual had a stated intention of returning to Canada in order to process immigration benefits forms with the Canadian Border Security Agency (CSBA). The individual were not admitted or paroled into the United States". They will fill in your details like name, DoB, nationality, car information and what bridge you crossed from.

Documents: I had my passport , CoPR, work permit, my license (these are mandatory) I also had my bank statement, pay stub and a picture (just in case). The CSBA agent only took my passport and CoPR and later asked for my license to confirm address for mailing of the PR. She didn't even ask for the WP or anything else. The PR card will be mailed in 6-8 weeks.

Thanks and Good Luck !!
