Hello everyone.

My husband and me got married 3 weeks ago and we’re waiting for the marriage certificate to start the request process for the PR.

I’m Italian, he’s Canadian(not by birth). We are expecting (9 weeks currently). As soon as the marriage license arrive we are going to apply for the PR.
We are gonna live in BC.

The timing is not the best and I know that if I don’t have the PR in BC the healthcare costs is very expensive and we cannot afford that.

So, my questions are:

•There’s a chance I can get the PR in time? I’m gonna do it in my home country.
•We were thinking to go to Alberta since once you are married to a Canadian they give you healthcare right away. So can this be a choice?
•Will the immigration deny my entry if they see i’m Pregnant?
•If by any chance I will decide to give birth in Italy does he will have to sponsor the kid too?

If you were in the same situation and get to solve this sh**ty situation I will be more than happy to read your story.

Thank you and looking forward your replies :)

The standard processing time for PR is 12 months. The issue with your application is the medical. You must complete a medical to be approved for PR - and the medical requires an x-ray. The majority of doctors recommend against getting an x-ray while pregnant since it may harm the unborn baby. So you will want to speak with your doctor to determine if you are comfortable going ahead with the x-ray while pregnant or if you want to wait until after you give birth.

I would very very strongly recommend again using the Alberta health care system since you don't actually plan on living there. This is viewed as an abuse of the health care system (fraud) and you can expect the province of Alberta to go after you for the costs of the birth plus penalties if you do this. You would be better off paying for the costs of the birth on your own - this will be cheaper than what the province of Alberta goes after you for.

Whether your husband will have to sponsor your baby for PR or if the child will be a Canadian by birth if born outside of Canada will depend on how your husband obtained his citizenship.

Based on the information you've provided, your best option is to have the baby in Italy.

Hi

When do you actually plan to come to Canada? BC grants coverage to spouses waiting for PR. There will be a 2-3 month waiting period, so as long as you are coming well ahead of time, you should be fine.

Hello! Thank you for your reply :)

I’m currently in Italy just because of the healthcare problem. I wanted to apply for the PR inland but I read that it will be faster if I apply Outland. I’m gonna live with my husband but for now I wanted to apply for the PR here in Italy get all the documents done (probably x rays too) and waiting for it here. If what your saying is true i’m gonna fly as soon as my PR is in process. I really hope it’s like that. My husband works and he’s not able to come to see me in Italy that’s why I hope to be able to give birth where he lives :/

apparently both outland and inland have 12 month timeframes right now.

if you'd like to have the baby in Canada with your husband - based on your posts inland may make more sense?

The only problem is that I don’t think I will have the healthcare coverage. It’s really expensive with just my husband working sowe cannot afford that.
If the comment which has mentioned that BC grants healthcare coverage while waiting for PR then this might be a solution for our situation.

You can be in Canada while an outland app processes. You don't have to apply inland just because you are here.

I am in New Brunswick and the only wait time for the health care was receiving the actual card, took about 3 weeks but, the health care is effective the day they land, or get PR, if you pay anything the government reimburse you. You can also contact them and get the actual medicare number to use until the card arrives.
Not sure if you can get it while you wait, worth looking into
