Hello! I had applied for visitor visa in Dec 2017 and it has been refused due to my "current employment status". I had quit my job in Nov 2017 and had mentioned the same in my application which has apparently led to my refusal.

My fiance lives in Canada and has a work permit and we are getting married in Jan 2018. We are planning to apply for dependent work permit visa after our marriage.

Will my refusal for visitor visa affect approval of my dependent work permit? How long will it take to process my work permit? What are the dos and donts considering my visitor visa refusal?

Highly appreciate any thoughts and ideas on this.

Yes - it's possible the refusal of the visitor visa may impact your OWP application.

Make sure you declare the TRV refusal when you apply for the OWP. You'll also want to demonstrate that you have strong ties to your home country in the OWP application. Have you started working again? It would be best if you were working at the time you apply for the OWP.

Process can take anywhere from a few weeks to many months. Hard to predict.

Thank you for the response. Would you know what details/documents about my employment will be required for my OWP?

Typically a letter from your employer confirming what job you have, how long you've been employed, salary, etc. Also a few pay stubs.

If suppose I don’t start working while applying for my OWP, is there any other way I can demonstrate strong ties to my country?

Property ownership, business ownership, assets, etc.
