Applying for a PR as a Kenyan Citizen to Canada

Hi There,

I am wondering if anyone can confirm if I have the correct information:

My boyfriend lives in Kenya and I in Canada. He has been denied a TRV twice, so the only option would be to apply as a PR.

We have not lived together, so I am under the assumption that we could live outside of Canada together for 1 year and then apply for PR after the 1 year....

My questions:

1. Do we have to live together for the full year and then apply for PR?
2. I assume it would be best to apply for the PR while we are in Kenya?
3. Once we apply for the PR, I took a look at the processing times, and see that it states 29 months in Kenya.... does that mean that after we live together for 1 year, I would have to move back to Canada once we apply for the PR and then he would have to stay in Kenya for the 29 months or whenever the PR has been processed?

I have just started looking into to this, so I am hoping someone would be so kind to clarify the process for me...

1. Yes, you have to live together for a full year first. (Or get married.)
2. It doesn't matter where you apply from. However you will be using the outland process since he is outside of Canada.
3. You can stay in Kenya with him if you want to.

Like Scylla said, if you get married, you can apply to sponsor him right away. If you don't want to get married, you must live with him in a common law relationship for 1 year before you can sponsor him.

If you are a Canadian citizen, you may sponsor him even while you are living in Kenya but you would have to prove that you will be moving to Canada when he gets his PR. Such proof may include job offers, having arranged housing, being accepted to college or at the very least some written up plans on where you plan to live, what you plan to do and some supporting letters from your family and friends.

If you are a PR, you have to be residing in Canada in order to sponsor.

The 29 months is the time it takes to process 80% of all applications. Therefore, the average processing time is likely to be a bit shorter, but in 20% of all cases it may also be longer.
