guys, just a question.

is it possible to apply for a work permit being in canada as a tourist?
my process in already in the embassy and I dont know how long it will take, but i'd like to start working to help my husband.

any thoughts?

It looks like you applied outland.

If so, then to qualify to apply for a work permit, you must first find an employer who is willing to offer you a job - and then that employer must obtain an approved labour market opinion:

but someone told me that there's a "open work permit" which means I work work anywhere.

There is. But you don't qualify for one.

If you had applied using the inland process (instead of outland), the you would have qualified for an open work permit once your application was given first stage approval.

Is your husband a student or skilled worker? The spouses of students or skilled workers are eligible for open work permits. But you should confirm that you are in fact eligible to apply for a work permit from inside Canada before applying. Based on other people's experiences here(e.g. a guy from Ireland went to the border and was put on a flight to Ireland to apply from there), it will seem visitors are no longer able to apply while in Canada and have to return and apply from their home country. So definitely check with a lawyer.

He goes to University yeah, maybe that will help.

that only works if the person is coming as a dependent to a student or skilled worker - in the case of a family sponsorship, the fact that the sponsor (Canadian or PR) is a student doesn't make a difference...

So it means that if I apply, it'll be denied?

Yes - definitely.

I dont know then cause today I talked with a politician from here and he was the one who told me to do it.

I'm confused now.

Most politicians aren't familiar with the rules. Or he might have assumed that you applied inland since you are currently in Canada. However you definitely don't qualify for an open work permit since your spouse/partner sponsored your outland and you will definitely be refused if you apply. Obviously your choice what you do. But you'll be wasting your money applying.

Actually he is the member of the parliament and he knows I'm applying outland cause he also told me how many month it takes to my VO and after he said it, so I though about checking up here.

But I'm now with a touristi status till November, if I apply and it gets denied, do I need to leave?
