Yes, there is recently a language requirement to apply for citizenship. If you attended high school or college in English or French, your diploma will be accepted. If you had to provide an IELTS when you applied for your PR, it will be accepted, even though it is expired by now. If you have neither, you will need to take either IELTS or CELPIP.

So.. if your college course was taught in English, your college diploma should suffice.

I applied for citizenship in October 2012, went to College in the US but did not submit the diploma with my application. Can anyone tell me when did this new rule came into effect? ThanksLeon said:

I've read on this and other forums that CIC is sending back citizenship applications as invalid despite applicants including copies of their diplomas. My reading of this is that its an issue where the applicant studied in a country where English or French is not the native language.isabela said:thanks a lot LEON......
In these cases the applicant must clearly show that the course was in English/ French. I'm not sure if transcripts on their own are enough to do this...maybe the inclusion of a syllabus defining the subject matter would be clearer.
For this reason I would suggest that applicants who studied in a country where English/French is not the native language even if the course was in English/French do the IELTS/ CELPIP test as it eliminates any subjectivity on CIC's part.

i graduated back home, ENGLISH is not our main language but our subjects are all wriitten in english......maybe i better call cic about this.....anyway thanks who replied.... :-*
