Hi there all,

Just a quick question recenlty i applied for spousal sponsorship with my common law. My preferred destination was ottawa cpp, but after my wife got approved from Missisauga, they instead sent my application to Los Angeles instead.

This is what was on my letter:

This visa office was selected based on your relative's home address and the requirements of the
Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Is this of any concern? should i be worried? Any reason why it was sent there instead of Ottawa?

Help would be appreciated.

Not 100% sure but mabe if your wife is from the US that's why it sent there??
Just a guess though sorry

I think he means that YOU are American. Did you put your American or Canadian address down on your application?

You can select any office you qualify for, but in the end CIC will send the application to where they deem suitable, overriding any request you had. This happens lots of times with visa offices all over the world. Not really a reason for concern, unless the office they sent it to has incredibly long processing times or something (not sure how LA compares to Ottawa).

You must have done an outland application. In that case the application will be processed in a VO in your home country (in this case, Los Angeles). If you had applied inland it would have been processed in Canada (in Vegreville, Alberta I believe, though I think Ottawa processes inland too).

Thanks for replying, Helps a lot. BTW i am jamaican living in Toronto on a PGWP with my wife. My address is Toronto. So i was just concern as to why they would send my application there, since it has nothing to do with me nor my wife.

Anyways the good news is that step 1 has been approved, now to wait eternity for step 2 :D

Thanks

Thanks for your reply, my only concern was that i have nothing to do with Los angeles, I am from Jamaica and my wife is Canadian by birth and we applied outland for Ottawa and for some reason it got sent to LA. No worries. I was just wondering.

Thanks again!

Ok now that is a bit strange. I can only assume that LA is being used as an overflow office, in that Ottawa is too busy or overloaded with applications so they are sending some random ones to LA to be processed.

Well as long as its not a problem with my application or it wont delay it or anything, i dont mind. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated.

Cheers!

You've never lived in the USA your entire life? Usually American files go to LA. Strange.

You might want to check with CIC. I'm not saying that it is a cause for worries, but it is indeed a little strange that your application got sent to LA - I can't really see any reason. As others mentioned, CIC does pretty much what they want. But sometimes they also make mistakes, and it would be a good idea to check if LA was selected by choice ( in which case, nothing to worry about), or it was a mistake ( which should then be corrected).

Good luck,
Sweden

Hm, interesting. And still strange haha. I just got the spreadsheet for LA back and *somewhat* running. So the timelines are there. However the majority are Americans so I'm not sure how different it would be for you.
